Severe Pain - Need Advice

Hi Everyone,

I had my RNY surgery on June 19th and have been home for three weeks today. In all honesty, I have had a really easy recovery. My pain was not bad at all and eating has been much better than expected.

Last Friday, I noticed that my main incision was looking a little infected. They cut off the remaining surgical glue in the office, put me on antibiotics, and sent me on my way. The infection cleared up quickly, but I began having severe pain in the area around my incision. It is definitely muscular feeling, but so much worse than anything I experienced after surgery. It is a stabbing pain. I have literally done nothing but rest since last Friday

When I went in to be seen about this yesterday, I was told that I am just constipated (which, wowzers! I sure was). So last night, I was finally able to get some relief from constipation, but today, the pain around my incision is SO MUCH WORSE! I can barely move. It is 100% worse than my pain in the hospital or even when I came home.

I am really concerned that something is wrong, but also aware that maybe straining to poop could have possibly cause this. It's just so confusing, because after surgery, I never rated my pain higher than a 3 when I move wrong today, I would easily rate this pain a 7.

Any advice?

Thank you for taking the time to read all of that!

If you're in that much pain, I would say you need to get your doctor involved right away, again. I know you were just there yesterday, but they need to know what is going on so they can help.

That kind of pain is not normal. Get back to the doctor.

"Severe pain" should be treated by a doctor, not random strangers on the Internet.

Call your surgeon's office ASAP.

Thanks. I posted while waiting for the office to return my call, hoping that someone might have experienced the something similar. I definitely wasn't looking for a crowd-sourced diagnosis.

I hope that, by this point, you have heard from your surgeon!
