Question?????
No broth. Tons of salt. You'd gain weight from fluid retention.
6'3" tall, male.
Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.
If I was desperate to lose as much as I could in only 4 or 5 days, I would eat nothing. Drink tons of water. Tons. That's it. Starting off morbidly obese, it won't hurt you.
That's just what I'd do.

Her surgery isn't until August 28th. This weigh in is to jump through an insurance hoop.
And this diet for four days would do a marvelous job at reducing her liver, which is accomplished by losing weight and going really low carb. Water only would do a fantastic job of that. The only unhealthy part of this is the lack of protein. But for 4 days, lack of protein is not a serious issue. This was all about a temporary fix to get back on track.

Every protein shake is different and they have many various grams of sugar and carbs. Some are actually for body builders not for weight loss. Some are mixed with milk some with water. But as others said, read the labels and go as low carb and low sugar as you can and drink a ton of water. Good luck and sorry you have to jump through these hoops. It will be worth it on the other side!
Not likely, unless you are dehydrated. And you do not want to be dehydrated before surgery. Also, starving yourself could effect your labs and cancel your surgery. Call your Dr on Monday and discuss realistic solutions.
As for the "jumping through hoops"and "playing the game" comments, one of the reasons we are/were obese in the first place is that we don't want to wait for gratification.
I do agree that pre surgery weight loss requirements are ridiculous. Research has actually shown that pre surgical weight loss is not an indicator of long term success. If it's the office policy, there might be some flexibility, however if your insurance company is requiring it, their (arbitrary) rules are extremely inflexible.
I do have the utmost respect for your honest here, but you need to be just as honest with the scale.
Again, call your Dr to discuss this but in the long run would it really matter if your surgery was put off for a month?
