Did they give you a pre-op diet? Keep a food diary you can show them, and follow the plan.

Your best bet is zero carb. Totally zero. You'll lose some water weight that way. You might put a few pounds back on once you increase your carb count, but that doesn't seem to be your immediate issue.

Just make sure there are no carbs in either your protein powder or the fluid you mix it in.

Yes, think that's very possible! Plus make sure you drink lots of water!

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

I would do the same thing. Hopefully your protein drink is as low carb as possible. Drink a ton of water, too.

Play the game.

I am not sure why surgeons even require pre-op weight loss (unless someone is super-morbidly obese and surgery would be risky at a high weight). I do not believe how well you follow a diet program before surgery is necessarily an indicator of how you will do post-op (I am a prime example of this). I could not follow my pre-op plan. I needed weight loss surgery to lose weight and keep it off.

I was told that the reason they want you to lose the weight just before surgery is to reduce the amount of fat in the liver. That way its smaller and softer ... easier to push out of the way.

If you fall down you just have to get back up.

Simply losing weight isn't what accomplishes this. It's going super low carb that does.

It was explained to me that the reason for the pre-op was to shrink my liver, to prevent any potential injury to the liver during surgery. Not necessarily so that I can prove I can stick to a plan. I was able to eat foods though. It wasn't full liquid, just had to stay at 800-1000 calories per day.
