More frustration UPDATE: Stricture

I've mentioned I've been nauseous in my last post. This weekend it got worse with me vomiting up any water immediately. After my apt with my surgeon he sent me straight to the hospital for upper gi, full labs, and lots of fluids.

good news- nothing wrong with the upper gi, and my labs are better post op than pre-op.

bad news- not sure what's causing the issue.

I now have to get a scope tomorrow and an egd. Fingers crossed they'll figure out what's up.

Also The fluids really did help with the lethargic feeling and general grossness. The only thing the nurses noticed was that I had low blood sugar (can't remember exact numbers) could this be causing the nausea?

UPDATE: my surgeon called a few hours ago. Turns out I'm the 1 in 100 of his patients that got a structure. Originally the opening was 33mm, now it's around 6mm due to scarring. Hopefully after they stretch it the problem will go away. In the meantime I'm on full liquids.

Glad the fluid helped. That sounds really frustrating. I hope they are able to figure out the root cause tomorrow and fix it.

Wishing you good health!

I had two strictures early out (they're very rare once you get 3+ months out). It's an easy fix - and you should feel 100% better right away (or at least I did!!)

Good to hear! Did you also experience nausea?

yes. And it got progressively worse until I called my surgeon's office and they sent me over to the hospital for an upper endoscopy (the second time i had one, I knew what it was...)

I'm sorry you went through that, but I'm glad I'm not alone. Was there anything you did to cope with the nausea? I seriously can barely handle liquids.

no - although it was the worst right after I ate. Ugh. You'll feel better right away after they do the dilation. Hope they can get you in soon. If you can't even keep liquids down, they need to get you in pronto. One can live without food for a couple of days (or longer), but not liquids!

It's very common for strictures not to open up properly after only one treatment. It seems like it usually takes 2 or 3 tries to get it just so. After all, you don't want them to make it huge on the first try, either.

Push fluids, as much and as often as you can.

I'm glad you have an answer to your issues! Is the fix just a balloon dilation? I hope it goes well!
