Bread - The enemy?
I think that's pretty common. I avoided ground meat (even though it was recommended****il 3 months because so many people I knew in person had struggled with it. I only eat ground beef now, because ground chicken, turkey and pork taste terrible to me.

My father used to say, "If you can't live without something, you can't live with it."
Over and over again in your posts, I see your words that you don't think you can live without bread.
I think this speaks to addiction -- and carbs are sugar and sugar is addictive.
I get it. I am a food addict -- I know all about not being able to give up bread, potatoes, rice, fruit, etc. I wasn't able to stop eating them or moderate them all the way to 347 pounds!
I haven't had any bread since 2013. Do I miss it -- absolutely. I had to white-knuckle through the withdrawl to eat more ketogenically. Once you get through the withdrawal, it becomes far easier.
The reward? I weigh between 128 and 135 lbs now. Here's my post on why this is better than bread: Daily Pleasures of not being Obese.
I treat sugar (carbs are sugar) like syringes of heroin. I am a food addict -- carbs are my drug.

Toast is my drug if choice.
Post op I couldn't eat it without it getting stuck.
About 4 years post surgery I could eat half a slice. That kept growing along with my weight. Even though I had a small pouch I could still get a piece of toast down every couple hours.
It's hard to imagine a post op diet when you are pre surgery I think. It will be a big change.
And just say no to toast.
Ahhh... toast. Just say no.

I knew going into surgery that I was never going to eat the way I used to afterwards. I was a huge carb addict, to the point that I rarely ate meat (it was too expensive) with the exception of chicken and tuna, and subsisted on pasta, rice, potatoes, veggies, and of course the requisite junk food and sweets.
Post surgery, I have adopted the ketogenic way of eating. It is a not a diet. It is my permanent way of eating, my permanent way of life. Healthy, full-fat foods that provide a greater sense of satiety, moderate protein, very low carbs. So many "low fat" foods substitute sugar for fat. I eat plenty of vegetables, I just make sure they are low-carb--leafy greens, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms. The occasional onion.
I haven't had grains of any kind in 5 months (I stopped them even before changing to keto). I haven't had potatoes or any starchy vegetable in about the same amount of time. I have made the conscious decision to eliminate those things from my way of eating because they caused me so much damage my entire life. In my opinion, processed and simple carbs are evil. I look at those foods as the enemy...why would I want them in my life now?
I never would have believed I could eliminate bread from my life, let alone the pasta and rice I lived on...but I did. And you know what? I don't regret it for a moment. I actually walked through the bread aisle at Walmart the other day and the smell of wheat bread nearly made me gag. I couldn't have been happier! lol
So you see, you can cut bread out of your life. I used to ADORE bread...hot from the oven, slathered in butter...I could eat a loaf at a time! But it can be done, and you might be like me, all the happier for it!
Very well said. I wish I could like this comment 1,000 times.
