Can't tell you how much fun it is. It is a high intensity workout that combines conditioning, precision, footwork and more. I smell so bad when I walk in the door, my family won't speak to me. I burn 1,000 to 1,300 calories in an average 2 hour session with open bouting at the end, depending mostly on how vigorous open bouting is. I never fenced before March of this year and am trying to get myself in sharp to compete on the veterans circuit in the winter.

I highly recommend you look into a club near you and do an intro class. Our club offers unlimited beginner sessions for about $100 - beginners meet for 1.5 hours 2x a week. (And I'm not a spring chicken - I'm 55!)

I'm turning 50 this summer, and I'm a horrible dancer so I'm guessing that fencing will not be a good fit... that said I'm searching for classes now!

Do give it a try. BTW - the pup is super cute. Best of luck when s/he arrives. Don't worry about not being able to dance - if you can move forward and backward in a straight line - you've pretty much mastered the basics of going up and down the strip.

This isn't impacting my exercise today, but Sunday I put a deposit down for a puppy due in August (so I won't get him until October ish). I selected a breed that will fill my weekend farm time, weekday city living, and desire to have a running buddy. It's a "French Breton" and I'm super excited!!!!

By the five month point he should be ready for some 5K jogs with me :)

Here is a pic of a puppy from a previous litter. He's about six months in this photo.

Oh my goodness he is handsome, you will have so much fun when your little guy is ready! I have a blonde Pomeranian, you'd think just by the breed she would be a fussy little princess....but OH NO she isn't!!! She is a tough, street wise tomboy who loves to hike trails and swim, swim and swim some more. She rescued me more than I rescued her!!!

What a cutie! My sister had a big strong German Shorthair pointer that used to be such a freaking princess when they would go camping! He would sit on a little rug and look around disdainfully at the dirt, sand, etc like it was so offensive to him! Of course if there were BIRDS around it was FINE, but camping just to camp? No.

I am going to resume running again. Today I have a dread mill workout of 2 minutes run and 4 minutes walk over a 30 minute period.

If time permits, I will try to slip in some zumba. I dont get enough lateral movements in which contributed to an over-use injury so...going to try dancing
