metallic taste in mouth and abdominal discomfort
I will be seeing my doctor but wanted to see if anyone here had ideas or experienced something similar.
I started with upper/middle back discomfort. After eating some Brussel sprouts I had strong mid back pain and discomfort all the way around to my stomach. It subsided, but reoccured with the next meal. It's been several days now. It seems to be getting a little better, but I'm also sticking to easy-to-eat things - lots of liquids.
Since yesterday a new symptom as shown up - a metallic taste in my mouth. It tastes like blood.
I don't feel sick per se... not like a virus. But something is wrong. (as I said, I will be seeing my doctor) I worry this is a mechanical type issue with my sleeve. I'm almost 6 years out from surgery.
Does this sound familiar? Could it be a twist in the sleeve? Or an ulcer? Is there a special test I should ask for from my doctor?
Thanks everyone!!

I'm glad you'll be seeing your doctor!
This will probably sound totally strange, but have you eaten any pine nuts recently? Lots of the pine nuts in the US aren't sourced well and getting fake pine nuts can lead to this issue called "pine mouth." (I kid you not.) My partner got this once and lost about 10 pounds because it was a horrible metallic taste and nothing he ate tasted right/good, so he basically didn't/couldn't eat until it went away. (Now I make sure to source my pine nuts correctly!)

That's interesting - I had never heard of that. I haven't had pine nuts. The last thing I ate that really seemed to trigger the symptoms were oven-roasted brussel sprouts made with olive oil, sea salt, pepper, and a drizzle of balsamic reduction. SO YUMMY. But ouch.

So I haven't had surgery yet so I don't know anything that could be related to that. However, back and abdominal pain plus a metallic taste sounds a lot like a kidney/urinary tract infection to me. Also makes sense that it feels better with you getting lots of liquids.
Either way I hope it is a quick and easy fix!

Thanks for mentioning that... I do have a kidney stone that has been there for a couple of years, just hanging out. Maybe it is starting to move? I never thought of that... thank you

I just got back from doctor and she suspected and ulcer based on my symptoms. So I'm now taking Carafate. If it doesn't improve she wants me to see my bariatric surgeon to make sure it isn't something more.

I get the metallic taste in my mouth frequently when I work out. Mine is from chronic kidney issues and/ or meds I take for same. Turned out to be a non-issue, just tastes weird. Not to mention concerning.
