Period question
So I am 6 weeks out from surgery and have had my period for 3-4 weeks out of those 6. Before surgery I was fairly regular. I know it is probably all the hormones but I was just wondering if anyone else had this and when if it slowed down.

I should also not that it is light and no cramping.

This is definitely normal. During the first few months post-op, many folks experience what's called the "hormone dump," which can wreck havok with your cycle. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, and when we lose a lot of fat very quickly, those hormones go flooding out into your system. Cue heavy periods or extended spotting!
I went through a similar experience, even though I had an IUD and had gone years without a period. The spotting stopped about two months after surgery.
If you're at all worried, ask your surgeon or your gyno.

I am having the opposite problem. I am almost 1 year post op and haven't had a period on 3 months. I have simply stopped getting mine all together. I have been under my OB's care and she has run many tests, all indicators say I should have it but I'm just not getting it. Ultra Sound is next stop for me. I am learning 'Its always something" lol

Totally agree with Julie - this is normal.
Period abnormality is totally normal. For me, my periods became super light and brief compared to pre-op when they were always long, heavy, and horrible. But it goes the other way for some people. "yay."

I think it's fairly typical. I see lots of women posting something similar.
I, however, did not have this experience. I post this only because I noticed some pre-ops might think this happens to everyone, and I wanted to chime in and say that it varies. I've seen posts like yours, posts where women skip a few, some where they get heavier, lighter, more regular, less regular, increase fertility, and even begin menopause depending on age. The long and short of it is, surgery and especially WLS can cause odd things or nothing with one's menstrual cycle. Most changes are short lived (odd things) and then become more regular again.
I will say that I've always been very regular. In fact, I got my first period after giving birth exactly 29 days to the dot --- and 28 days from my LMP after surgery. I've never missed a period except while I was pregnant.
So, it again, it varies.
