Saying goodbye to an old friend - the gym

Going to the gym has been key in my journey. First for weight loss, preparing for plastic surgery and recent regain loss. In an effort to cut expenses I decided it was time to say goodbye to my old friend. I live in an area where there is no reason to not go do and get a great workout But I have been known to talk myself out of the activity. I can do this, but was wondering for those of you that do work out but not in a gym, what do you do? How do you motivate yourself? HOW DO YOU GET IT DONE

Thanks,

Kathy

While I do work out at the gym- I also have a routine for home- just in case. I like the app SWORKIT, someone here told me about it and it gives a great workout. Also, a free session with trainer gave me things to do with resistance bands, so if you don't have any get some and google some exercises. and I run too- but you know walking is great exercise too.

I work out 4-5x a week- I will not schedule anything during my workout times- whether I do it at home or the gym. It's no different than having to get up and go to work. Don't I want this lifestyle I've become accustomed to, I need to work for it.

Thanks peachpie, I will check that app out I have been doing this a long time but still need that kick in the butt from time to time. Have you heard of TRX training? I worked with this before I left the gym and really, really loved it. Check it out if you have them at your gym

I walk a lot and use hand weights at home. My fitbit keeps me motivated. I am very competitive

I have a small gym set up in my house. But.. using it is boring.

I teamed up with my neighbor - lady a few houses from me. we try to walk 3 times a week, in the morning..

joining a hiking club - going on hikes may be also a good idea.

When I was ready to get out and go again I joined Meet up and signed up for hiking, kayaking and biking. Love it! Love the idea about getting together with the neighbors, thanks I will try that

Hi Kathy

Due to mobility issues I have to be selective in the exercise I do, and at home I find calisthenics (using your own bodies resistance) as the right thing for me.

My best friend told me about DDP Yoga, and after googling it and realising it really was "not ya mama's yoga" (their catch phrase) I thought I would give it a go. All i need is a clear floor space and a chair or something similar to balance with. Think they have an app but I bought the DVD.

Highly recommended. It has helped me build my stability/coordination, tones all problem areas, gets heart rate going, talks you thru them so you don't risk getting out of alignment and has go to exercises for all levels.

Whatever you do I hope you have fun experimenting and I think it's fantastic you are keeping on the fitness (wellness) journey. All the best :)
