Lap Band for Extremely Morbid Obesity?
As someone with a permanently damaged esophagus from the band I concur with everyone. I think the ds would probably be the best option for you and I believe it can be done in two stages to make it safer. Sleeve first. Even dr now...does sleeve for his most smo patients and then sometimes revises from there for further weight loss.

I dont mean to be rude, but a BMI of 80 and a lap band , I can not even imagine why someone would recomend that to you as a first option..
Im a bmi of 45 and the sleeve is the only option for me that i would consider, though i know many people who are succesful with a band. for the amount of weightloss you need, i can not see how a band would be enough as to get to a BMI of 80, I would say you need something more of a tool like removing the hunger hormone , which the band does not do. - Goodluck, I am not an expert, but for me a band at a BMI of 80 would be a waste of time, but it may not be for you though, just for me.
A big NO on the lap band. I investigated wls thinking I would do the lap band but learned of the sleeve and concluded that was for me. One information source is the website of Laproscopic Associates of San Francisco. It has a good comparison of the different surgeries.
Also, watch the tv show "my 600 pound life". While it is a tv show, it depicts the journey of very obese people and I enjoy seeing people regain their lives.
Read the forums here. Find bariatric surgeons who do seminars - most do them. Then check him or her out and make sure they are a good one. GL diane S
