im on day 8 of 14 preop Guelph Ontario Canada everything was going great until yesterday no BM then this morning tried to go but couldn't. I've never had constipation before and it's very painful. We had heard to add Metamucil to the Optifast shakes if there was irregularities problem, there was. I'm on 4 per day (900 calories) total I had lost 39 pounds between Jan 26 and start if Opti and have lost 13 pounds more on Opti for 1 week. Anyway, Added A teaspoon of Metamucil to my last 2 Optifast and problem solved.

Geez if I could keep losing weight like that maybe I wouldn't need the surgery. Just kidding because the day I'd go off the shake diet I'd eat a large pizza.

any one else had that issue preop. Surgery set for June 13.

I have I've been on my preop diet since saturday. Mine has been protein shakes, soups, sugar free jello, and sugar free popsicles. I've noticed that I've really had to go, but nothing comes out. I may have to try putting some metamucil or miralax to my next protein shake when I'm home to see if it helps. So Far since saturday I've lost about 10 pounds. I wi**** was this easy to lose weight normally however I agree I would flip to pizza in a second lol

I'm doing the 26 week Optifast program at Guelph and they told us to have 4-8 tsp of Metamucil every day, whether we're having issues or not. Is the recommendation different for the surgical program?

Wow 81 pounds lost how many since you've been on Opti when did you start the Opti. I gather your not doing surgery.

I lost 51 lbs before starting Optifast and 30lbs in the almost 7 weeks of Opti.

I had planned on having the surgery but my doctor forgot to send the referral in. When I followed up with her 6 months later, I had lost enough that I no longer qualified for the surgery (no comorbidities).

I figured I might as well try the medical program since my BMI was still high enough to qualify and I've been working hard ever since. My plan is to eat as if I've had WLS but if regain is an issue, I'm going to find some way to get WLS before it gets that bad again.

I hear you on the pizza thing. I've been daydreaming about junk food all week and have to figure out the 'head stuff' so I don't go nuts once food is allowed again.

Drink plenty of water too and kudos to you being honest with yourself and know your red flags and "not going there"!!!

I had that problem too. I had to use restoralax in order to go at all. After surgery I didn't have an issue while on clears but it was really bad during full fluids. I started eating regular/soft and it has gotten better. Just make sure you take something before you get too backed up lol.

Good luck with your surgery! The Guelph hospital was amazing.
