So the talk of 'excess weight' has me thinking... (Dangerous, I know)

I found a place here in town that specifically does the excess body fat dexas. They are $125. Sounds like Oklahoma has cheaper ones... we deserve it for living here

I will schedule after the summer festivities. I don't have the cashflow for that, nor the time at the moment, but I'm really wanting one!

Doctors set goals for people high though, for the most part. The average stat for people losing is 50-65% of excess weight at 2 years.

The people that post on this forum, well the regulars are outliers for the most part, being in the top 20 to top 5% of WLS patients. That is rare.

I do think people short change themselves setting high goals, but it also depends on how long someone has been large and for how long.

I weigh 187 is, but I wear a size 8 or 10 dress. My waist is 29 inches and my hips are 40-41 bust is 36G and this is with lots of loose skin on my abdomen and back. Most women 5'5 and half 5'6, don't wear that size at that height, but I have more muscle than most because of being so heavy for so long. You body has to adjust to carry that weight so you have more muscle. Keeping my protein high post-op I was able to lose 95% fat and 5% muscle, with no weight training (I should have weight trained better, I just didn't).

If I got to my idea weight 150-155 I would be a size 0 or a 2. I have no desire to be a size 2 or smaller but I do want to have a normal BMI in case things with insurance rates get crazy in the future.

I don't think it's a great WL tactic to put too much stock in clothing sizes as an indicator for good health, goal weight or anything else frankly.

Thats because depending on where you live, where you shop and what brands you buy the size of clothing varies tremendously.

IMHO I am better off picking a weight range that fits my WL goal and sticking to it regardless of the number on my jeans.

Tell me about it! As someone who has had to shop exclusively in plus size stores since my early teens, inconsistencies in sizing in non plus stores is blowing my mind!

I literally have no idea what brand/store will have a an XL top that will fit. The range is huge! So crazy.

Exactly! In Europe I am a size 36 which is a US 4. In Japan I am one size away from their plus size in a Japanese size 25cm. In the US at the Gap for example I am a size 2! I am 5'4 and today I weighed in at 119 pounds. It'd be crazy to base my goal and my weight management on clothing sizes!

Men's sizes here are a little better. Someone wrote an article comparing pant sizes. They bought similar khaki pants at a bunch of stores, and they were all vanity sized a little. A 36 inch waist actually measured 37 to 37-1/2 inches. Except for Old Navy, which I have heard is the worst for women's vanity sizing as well. At Old Navy, 36 inch khakis actually measured almost 41 inches.

I just bought jeans in France. They were size 38... which I am normally a size 6, so makes sense. They are big in the waist, but if I went down a size, they would have never fit my 5'11" legs...

Maryann who I went with always says "jeans don't lie" so my Paris jeans are now my standard of always having to fit into them...
