The numbers most bariatric surgeons use are based on "average loss" for a person your weight. That includes those people who are already grazing all day by one month post op...

Gwen hit the nail on the head. Most people confuse "excess weight" with the amount of weight they have decided to lose, so that 60% figure is not based on your chosen amount of weight loss.

From my surgery weight, I chose a goal to lose 125 pounds. According to my surgeon, my official "excess weight" is supposed to be 150 pounds. I had lost 56% of my "excess weight" by my 6-month checkup. However, I was at 67% of what I choose to lose.

So there you go. It's so confusing because they use that excess weight term, but I had to do the math afterward to figure out what that was, because they never actually told me the number.

I lost nearly 50% of the weight before surgery and now 3.5 months post surgery I am at 70% total loss and 50% loss from my surgery day weight. I hope I don't stop losing in the next few months, but I also know that isn't likely.
