A few (!) words about "cheating" on the post-op dietary instructions (don't do it)

LOL. I do tend to be verbose!! ;)

I agree that it's a LOT of verbiage, and it really does need a good trimming. I'm one of those who if I ever tried to earn a living as a writer, would have to employ a REALLY dictatorial editor. ;) It's been a help in grad school, though. I have no problem throwing out the requisite 500+ word postings on request. LOL.

It was perfect just as you wrote it.

Hope you don't mind, but I tried my hand at editing your piece and trimmed it down quite a bit. I condensed some stuff and added sub-headings, so I think it's quite a bit easier to read.

I don't mind at all, thanks for the work! I'll go over it when I'm at home later this evening.

I read this the first time you wrote it when I was pre-surgery. I found it so helpful!!

Why anyone would cheat after having major abdominal surgery will always be a mystery to me.

For anyone who is pre op and reading this, WLS doesn't fix your brain. Get help with your food issues before surgery.

Me, too.

We had an absolute flood of people at the other forum eating INSANE things only a few days after surgery... pizza, burgers, tacos, chips... hell, we had a 20-something page thread about swedish fish for someone that I seem to recall was only a couple of weeks post-op. 'Cause it's 'soft food' right? We saw everything from "but I chewed really really well" to "it went down OK so it must be fine". I swear one person had stopped at a drive through driving home from the hospital.

The threads were always titled something like "cheated on post-op diet", and the patient educator in me just wanted to jump up and down in people's faces screaming "IT'S NOT A DIET, YOU MORON, IT'S POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS!! DON'T YOU KNOW YOU COULD KILL YOURSELF WITH THIS?!!!"

And the enablers were nothing short of insane. Those of us saying, "um, that was a really, REALLY bad idea" were chastised for being mean to people who couldn't help themselves. After all, we're all just human, and food addiction, yo. And they were reassuring people who had eaten crazy stuff DAYS post-op that they would be just fine.

This was me for days, maybe even weeks for thread after thread after thread:

Hence the rant. LOL.

****ter is even worse; it combines the stupidity of Facebook with the attention span and social functionality of a non-verbal autist, with a healthy serving of raging racism/sexism/homophobia.
