Sadly, many surgeons give this advice still and it's super outdated. I read comment once where someone posited that it was because people WOULD take Flinstones, and Flinstones are better than not taking anything at all... but, really, we can do better than that and we owe our bodies better than that.

Most docs don't know squat about how to keep you healthy after they are done cutting. It's even worse for those of us with the DS, for we break all of their rules about toxicity fears. About 12 years ago, many docs were recommending Flintstones and Tums, and many patients got severely malnourished following that advice. Do yourself a favor and start taking grown-up vitamins and get with your PCP to monitor your nutritional levels. They know more than the surgeons, and they should know you better, as well.
