More sensitive to caffeine?
I meant to address the palpitations in my other response but forgot. I have hereditary irregular heartbeat and palpitations, have had them for many years (in addition to hereditary high blood pressure). I take a blood pressure medication that regulations the palpitations wonderfully. They have become almost non-existent since surgery and massive weight loss. (I still take my BP meds).
That being said, I've drunk coffee my whole life. I drank a LOT prior to surgery. Since surgery I limit to 16oz per day. I have not noticed any increase in my palpitations since I started drinking coffee again (about 30 days post-op). I don't know if this helps, but I, personally, have not had an issue with caffeine (including caffeinated iced and hot teas).
Cecily--EXACTLY!!! So very often, we tend to pin EVERYTHING on our WLS... every cramp, sniffle, skipped heart beat, etc...forgetting we had bodies BEFORE our gut altering surgeries...
To answer your original question (I think-I got kinda lost, along the thread):
I've always been a coffee drinker-FULL LEADED...Never gave it up...Have never had a problem...MY EXPERIENCE...But, I can't eat a pork chop...go figure :)
I completely, totally agree with DONNA's responses---she's a very smart lady !!!

I don't know your age but I had heart palpitations when I started menopause. My doctor did an EKG and didn't find anything abnormal and they went away eventually.

I am also an ex-caffeine head. (diet coke was my favorite addiction). I drank it all day, every day. Even right before bed and never felt wired. Since surgery, I've also experienced the intensified effects of caffeine! I just thought it was because I don't have it anymore. I think of it like booze...I never drink so I imagine my "tolerance" is miniscule.

God no.
I drank coffee before surgery, but I drink far more now. So. Much. Coffee.
I drink a ridiculous amount of coffee -- including right before bed. I have never felt any huge effect from caffeine. I wish that I did!
I gave up coffee for 3 months after surgery -- my surgeon did not require it at all -- in fact, coffee was one of the first drinks brought to me -- at a Bariatric Center of Excellence: Cleveland Clinic. -- It just tasted "off" for a while and I was being extra careful during my healing period.
Additionally, I am 46 -- so it's not that I am young, either.
(note: it's only 9:49 a.m. and I am already on my second 16 oz cup of coffee...)

This is basically my consumption level. I will drink coffee and be able to fall asleep instantly if i want to.
I have coffee in the hospital also.
