More sensitive to caffeine?

I had to ease up on my caffeine intake. I'd started having more than I did pre-surgery in what was probably a bit of cross-addiction. Then I started having stomach problems and ended up with gastritis, so now I limit myself to no more than 2 caffeine drinks a day. When I have coffee, I stick to dark roasts as they tend to be less acidic. But, other than that, I haven't noticed it affecting things like my heart rate.

In my past life when I drank caffeine, before it became a migraine trigger for me, it would cause heart palpitations when I drank it at altitude, i.e. when I was visiting the mountains.

Isn't that strange? Hmm. It may just be time for me to switch to decaf. I was just wondering if weight or surgery had any bearing on the change in response. If altitude can, why not?

With your weight loss your bodies hormones will be adjusting. Caffeine is also known to reck havock on your hormones. Could be your body is going into overdrive with the two factors.

I had my RNY in Ontario. As for caffeine - it is a no-no for life as well as carbonated drinks. I know different centers have different rules but in Ottawa it is not allowed.

I've always been sensitive to caffeine (both at a normal weight and when obese), but since VSG my sensitivity has definately increased. Before surgery, as long as I had less than 2 cups of coffee and stopped drinking it by noon, I wouldn't notice any heart palpitations. Since surgery, I drink 1 cup of coffee in the early morning and sometimes notice the same racing heart feeling that I used to have if I drank caffeine after noon.

I use caffeine really infrequently. My theory has always been to only use it when I really need it so that way it will work. I haven't really noticed any change in how it affects me post-op compared to pre-op. But, I'm an atypical caffeine user!
