Coughing?

I have a really wicked cough and the Premier Protein Shakes my nutritionist suggested make the cough so much worse. I'm SUPER sensitive to cough syrup so literally I can do is honey and lemon/tea/cough drops which don't really DO much. On top of that, I'm also extremely nauseated from all of the coughing and have been vomiting when I cough. Can anyone suggest anything that I can eat to keep up with the diet until this goes away?

Maybe try sugar free ice pops. They won't give you protein but they will at least keep you hydrated. I had a stomach bug last week and couldn't eat anything for 3 full days. I focused on staying hydrated with broth, and the ice pops. I couldn't handle any water.

Things that are a milky consistency make existing coughs so much phlegmier. Am I right in assuming your haven't had surgery yet? So this is your nutritionist trying to help you get your weight down before surgery in December? If so, if it were me I'd focus on non-milky proteins you find on your list like lean meats until the cough passes.

And call your doctor! A cough strong enough to trigger your gag reflex might need more intervention than your current home remedies.

Honey is an expectorant - it would make you cough more.

You can take honey once the cough is "productive" and allow you to get things out of the lungs.

Have you tried warm water with a pinch of baking soda? Not a lot..mix and drink it.

Apple cider vinegar can help with thinning the mucus.

Cough from a sickness? Or is possible acid reflux that is causing you to cough?

coughing is a sign of acid reflux. Are you taking Nexiumbor another poi? You should mention the coughing to your surgeon.

This time of year my allergies act up causing drainage down the back of my throat which in turn causes coughing. If you are not sick, but have allergies, try something in your nose like Flonase.
