Wow had a great weekend and had surprising results. I am still awaiting a surgery date but, had two mother's day get together this weekend and was pretty good on my self imposed diet. I got to work and done my daily weigh in and was down over 8 pounds since Friday morning.

Did you even bother to read the link you posted? That page says NOTHING about any sort of "starvation mode" or metabolic effect.

Here's some legit science regarding "starvation mode," which does not exist.

In general, his doctor has already evaluated his health... he is scheduled for WLS.

I'm assuming you are too.

If you think that you're going to lose weight slowly with WLS, you will never be successful. WLS isn't set up for slow weight loss.

You might want to look into weigh****chers if you are concerned about losing weight quickly, because the name of the game with WLS includes QUICK weight loss, mindful weight loss, that is centered on getting the weight off in the first year.

The 8 pounds the OP lost this weekend is probably 99% water... and that's OK. It's a great start to actually losing pounds, and gets his head in the game... which one day will be the hardest piece to keep in the game. DO NOT scare him into thinking he did something wrong in losing that weight!

How the hell fast do you think we take it off POST-op?? There were weeks in the beginning where I was taking off in excess of 10# a week, and I was a slow loser compared to many I've talked to online.

Did you see how fast they are taking it off the lady from the Middle East who had surgery in India? I didn't even think it was possible to get weight off that fast.

here's a quote from your own link:

"In some situations, however, faster weight loss can be safe if it's done the right way. For example, doctors might prescribe very low calorie diets for rapid weight loss if obesity is causing serious health problems. But an extreme diet like this requires medical supervision."

We're under medical supervision. The OP is under medical supervision.

I'm an RN and one of the first to get pissy about people giving out medical advice on an internet forum. But seriously, get a grip.

Sorry, the person that originally posted deleted their posts... so now this won't make much sense to you...

But Kudos to you for starting your diet early, and doing a great job over the weekend!!! Getting started is often the hardest part of it all!

I hate when people delete their stupidity in posts rather than just owning it, saying, "gosh, you're right! I was wrong!"

That way other people can learn from it and doesn't make the entire post incomprehensible for those who come later.
