Day full of NSVs
Yesterday was such a great day! I've posted in the VSG menu thread that I was having a big reveal of my weight loss to my extended family that was unplanned, due to us coming together yesterday for my great-uncle's funeral. Aside from the sad reason for us to be together, I knew my weight loss was going to cause quite a stir, and I was right.
I got some great reactions. I got several, "I didn't recognize you at first!", "I thought you were your sister!" and "I wondered who you were and then I looked at your face really closely and thought...OMG that's Cathy!" LOL Everyone was thrilled and so supportive, it was a wonderful day full of NSVs!
Then, the best thing ever, dinner with my oldest nephew (who holds a very special place in my heart). I'd been planning my big reveal with him, as he's only known me as SMO his entire life. The last time I weighed what I weigh now he was 2 years old...he'll be 30 this year!
I managed to get video of his reaction. IT WAS PRICELESS!! "OH...MY...GOD! Are you serious? Are you SERIOUS?! I don't know what to say. OMG, you look amazing!" We had an awesome dinner, it took him forever to order because he kept staring at me then at the menu, shaking his head, and saying "I can't focus, my mind is totally blown!" and "You look 20 years younger!" LOL I almost broke my face from smiling. He is so proud. Texted me after and said "That was the best surprise I've had in so long!"
I just had to share with everyone. These are moments that make me thrilled I made the decision to have surgery and change my life. Looking forward to so many more!
EDITED: Gina wanted to see the video, so I managed to get it uploaded so I can share. (Forgive the mild cursing, I originally thought only my family would see this lol).
Proud aunt and nephew:
Well..crap...I thought you were posting the VIDEO !!! I am disappointed !!!
My oldest nephew was my "first baby". I took him for his "first" everything...circus, airplane trip, etc...I was a WAY better aunt, than I've ever been a mother--just ask my boys :) I understand the aunt/nephew bond. I have a whole slew of them now-and love them all dearly, but Rusty will always be "special"
How long since your nephew had seen you? Did he KNOW you were losing weight?
ETA: Sorry about the loss, of your Great-Uncle. I hope his death was peaceful

We Can Do Hard Things
Thank you, Gina, he was a sweet man and he died in his sleep at the age of 90, he had a good life.
LOL I've figured out a way to upload and link to the video, I've edited the original post to add the link!
It had been 18 months since I've seen him, December 2015. He had NO IDEA I was losing weight at all, I purposely kept it a secret from everyone but 2 of my sisters, and my 3 BFFs.
I am very sorry for the loss of your great uncle and the reason you all had to get together, I love your great evening with your nephew! I have twin nephews who are seriously like my own children (especially since I never had kids and their mom was out of the picture very early in their lives). I didn't tell them about my surgery until I saw them about 2.5months after it (only because I knew they would worry unnecessarily) and they have been my biggest supporters/fans ever since. The bond between aunt and nephew is strong and important. The smiles on both your faces says it all!
