Lapband to Sleeve/RNY Question

Hi Everyone

I am going through the process to have a revision done so I don't know which surgery will even be recommended at this point but I wanted to know what the experience is regarding the "first bite" feeling. Even though my band is empty I have swelling in the area so it still has decent restriction and I have some pretty bad first bite moments, especially on stressful days. Will I still be dealing with this or does that pain and bringing the food bad up go away?

Also, for anyone, how is it with when you have the stomach flu? Is vomiting more painful than it was before surgery?

It has been one of those stressful and first bite days and it is something that has crossed my mind.

Thank you for your time!

I'm not a revision, but vomiting with my RNY is much less unpleasant than before surgery. First of all, my stomach doesn't hold as much anymore. Second, there's a lot less acid in my stomach, so the vomit doesn't have that horrible vomit-y taste.

Thank you! That is sadly another thing to look forward to. Not a common occurrence but it does suck right now when I do get the stomach flu.

I am almost 4 years out from a revision Band to RNY bypass. I couldn't be happier or healthier with my upgrade.

For me everything is completely different from Banded life. There is none of that first bite issue, needing to warm up my band before eating, foaming, vomiting, productive burps, none of it. Since the first sip of water post-op! It's amazing.

I haven't vomited since surgery so I can't speak to that. It is really an entirely different experience eating without the Band. I have small pouch days and days when I just have to be mindful of portion size since there is rarely a stop signal for me ( nose drip). I also have no sensation of hunger so I must eat by the clock.

I hope you get your revision because whichever surgery your surgeon recommends is going to be 100x better than living with the Band! Good luck.

7 months out revision to RNY. it is totally different from a band. like being back to normal. Normal is not throwing up every day, no "stuck" feelings.

totally different animal to the band.

I am ready to tackle the different animal. I was just hoping I did not have to continue dealing with the stuck feeling. It is a horrible feeling, and awkward if you are out for a meal.

I had a beef tenderloin for dinner on Sunday night, if that is any indication.

Would have been a total no go with a band.
