Hey T, need some advice...going to ask Julie too. I can do distance but speed escapes me. If I really pu**** maybe 10-11mph but 8-10 seems to be my norm. How did you increase your speed? Thanks bike girl

Ha, speed escapes me too! lol Julie's answer to you on her thread is best.

Even though I ride, some of the lingo I'm not familiar with. Most of the time when I ride it's usually windy & in the beginning because I was oblivious to the gears in the front to only be used for hills, I've always kept it in the hardest gear (3). Things like cadence hadn't occurred to me until the guy in the bike shop mentioned it, & because most times I've had to ride against the wind in 1 direction or the other it was hard for me to build up speed. So I resigned myself to go as fast as I could in the 3rd gear, but would drop it down to the 2nd (front) sometimes & upshift? (go to the harder gears in the back) & pedal as fast as I could.

Usually a combination of the front & rear gears is what helped me with speed.

Someday I'll probably get a cadence meter that will work with my Garmin device. Then maybe I can get a more accurate reading of what I need to work on to get my speed up.

No one surgery is better than the other, what works for one may not work for another. T-Rebel

Thanks T! If you are riding against the wind most of the time I bet your legs are in the BEST shape. I know when I do an RPM class and we stand I am like OMG Don't do it too long as my knees scream. Never heard of the cadence meter either... On my way to read Julie's reply

That's awesome! I love riding my bike! I'm only up to 12 km in one outing so far though, lol. When I was younger I'd do 30-60 km per day easily, but that was before the weight gain. I'd love to be able to participate in a bike tour like you did. I signed up for the Great Cycle Challenge Canada and pledged to ride 75 km in June. I"m hoping it won't rain all month, lol.

See that big city off the ferry? It's all yours.

Well, half of it.
