****yx/tailbone pain after WLS...it's becoming a real pain in the butt

I am having horrible ****yx/tail bone pain since I lost approximately 90 lbs. Is anyone else having this trouble? I am currently seeing a physical therapist and I've been told that this is a big problem amongst people who have lost weight...

I had this problem, and my chiro (who is a personal friend) told me that people tend to learn to sit wrong, especially when they're heavier. I certainly was. I was rolling back to where I was sitting almost directly on the end of my spinal column on the ****yx. I'd always heard about the "sit bones" but never really understood what that meant. Apparently we're supposed to roll more forward so that we're sitting on the ischial tuberosities. As we lose weight, we lose the fat roll that was protecting our ****yx and keeping it from being so painful to sit wrong. I had to consciously start rolling my center of gravity forward so that I'm putting my weight on the sit bones instead and it stopped that pain.

Yes, and it sucks to have to sit on something hard for any length of time!

I've heard that the muscles will adjust/grow/strengthen...something... and it will get better...

I'll let ya know when that miracle occurs

I hear you. Of all the things I DID expect after weight loss, I DIDN'T expect it to be a literal pain in the butt!!

I had that problem as well. I invested in a good tailbone cushion and it helped a TON, worth every dollar!

I fractured my tail bone when I was a kid and the area has been well padded for some time it has been hurting for weeks now. I have been told that I am going to have to get some of the bone removed but I'm trying to hold out till I get my tummy tuck because the panni and butt bone surgery are covered by my insurance but the tuck is not. If I get the two procedures done together it would cover most of the OR fee for the tummy tuck.
