What's the 411 on drinking sparkling water?
on 5/3/17 3:16 pm
Some people have trouble with the fizz of sparkling water, it gives them gas and makes for some discomfort. I regularly drink carbonation with no trouble, and my surgeon gave me the thumbs-up.
Make sure your drink has no sugar and no calories, and you'll probably be fine. If you're worried, start with small portions and let it go a little bit flat before drinking.

Ulcers are caused by NSAIDs and H. Pylori bacteria-- NOT carbonation.
Fizz may irritate an existing ulcer, but it will not cause one.

I drink carbonated water every day, it hasn't interfered with my weight loss or maintenance. My surgeon didn't have a problem with me drinking it. He only cautioned me when I was very new from surgery to let the fizz out some & let it stand, just in case I had a problem with carbonation.

I drink carbonation pretty much every day and I'm 15 weeks post op. I figured out sort of by accident that it didn't hurt. I ordered a (calorie free) drink and took a big swig before I realized. No pain. I sip it and it takes me a couple days to drink a 20oz bottle of anything, so I don't do cans very often.

I drink carbonated beverages every day. If it bothers you, stop. Otherwise you'll be fine.
Just make sure it's zero calorie.

GRIM-When you have time, will you please repost that thing about "Why some of us have trouble drinking plain water"? About how the Ph changes when it hits our guts, or something, like that?
I know I have an awful time with "plain" water. I WILL dink it, if it's all that is available, but usually wind up with some degree of nausea.
I think a lot of people will benefit from it

I will soak a flavored tea bag (summer berry) in a bit of boiling water and let it steep for about 5 minutes, then I pour it into a large glass and fill it with ice and cold water its a nice change from hot tea. Enjoy!
