Revision Surgery in 28 days. Irrational Fears?

Hi there I am having revision sleeve surgery on May 30th in Mexico. I went there for my initial surgery also. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am 5'4" . I weighed 199 pounds my first trip to mexico and I lost down to 147. I am back at 195 pounds. I have been in the 180's for about a year. The last 15 was since January of 2017. I am starting to see a counselor so I can have some tools for emotional eating. I am not afraid of the surgery etc. I am sooooo afraid I am not going to lose any weight. I am going to either be resleeved if it has stretched too much or moved to a bypass. If anyone has some words of encouragement I could really use them. I sit and I just worry for hours that I am going to fail. That I will not lose a single pound and I will have wasted $15k between my two surgeries. Anyone else find this normal or heck anyone find it abnormal? HELP. Talk me down.

A second surgery will not do anything if you're still an emotional eater. I think your worries about wasted money are completely valid.

Average weight lose with a revision is 20 pounds and that is from the pre-op and post-op dieting. A revision will do nothing if you do not reduce calories.

Hello and WELCOME! I don't have a sleeve, so I'm no doubt a bit ignorant, so please pardon me, if my questions seem redundant...

What, in YOUR opinion, went "wrong", in the past? The more you share, the more we can help...sincerely true

Your BMI was only 34, the first time, so is probably about the same now...pretty low, as far as WLS goes. Is that was why you are going to Mexico? I can't imagine anyone doing a bypass on a 34, unless you have some pretty hefty co-morbidities...Now, the RNY life, I can talk to you about, for days and days...

As the wise peeps, have already said, all the surgery in the world will do NADA, ZILCH, NOTHING for what goes between your teeth...You have to work on what is between your ears first...REGARDLESS of what PHYSICAL surgical route is chosen

ETA: Since whole post is pretty "bait-y"...and I feel stupid, for falling for it... I call:

Did your sleeve malfunction in some way? Is there a physical problem with it?

If not.. your sleeve is still there so if you eat correctly (mainly dense protein) you will still have restriction and be able to lose weight. Work on addressing the mental reasons that caused the self-sabotage, that's probably a better investment than a revision surgery.

Well yes thank you for asking... it is mishapen. It is wayy to large and it appears it probably started that way after surgery and it was not made small enough to start.

As for emotional eating. I lost my brother in a tragic accident over a year ago and that started the spiral. I have a dietitian I start working with on the 15th of this month (I have paid for a year of visits) and I start my counseling 2 weeks post op.

I guess asking for encouragement was too much? :)

Interesting about the shape of your sleeve - I hope you're going to a different surgeon this time around! I admit that I'd also consider the DS if I had to get my sleeve revised for some reason.

Death can definitely throw us all off kilter. I hope that working with the dietician helps.

I hope you aren't going to the same surgeon that did your first sleeve?

Okay, so here I am throwing myself in front of you and the RNY. You are already halfway to the DS, so why dissect a perfectly functioning stomach, and finish your DS for the best statistics of long-term weight loss? Dr. Esquerra at Mexicali Bariatric Center is who you want to talk to.

Valerie- please educate me (for real!!-I get asked questions, all the time-silly people see that I am old, and automatically ASSUME I know stuff!!)...

Would physicians do a full on DS on someone with such a low BMI, who had been unsuccessful with a VSG?

I never, ever give advice on a surgery I don't live with
