Once approved...?
My insurance had several preconditions I had to meet and a set co-pay of $500.00 for the surgery (I imagine that is in addition to my regular $250.00 yearly deductible). Unfortunately, I have not met any of my deductible this year so I am thinking I will have to pay $750.00 out of pocket.
It took me a few months longer then I had hoped to get all my prerequisite stuff done. I started the process Aug 6, 2016 and the origional plan was to have the surgery in December of 2016, but decided to postpone as I didn't want to be in recovery over Christmas. I'm glad I did because we had a winter from hell here in Central Oregon. I had everything done by April 12th, was approved by my Insurance on April 19th, and had my surgery date scheduled by April 20th. My Pre Op with the Surgeon will be on May 12th and my surgery on June 6th.
Have you started in a Surgical Weight loss Program or are you just waiting for insurance approval.
Best of luck
I finished all my pre requisites and had everything submitted Wednesday last week. So I'm just waiting on an approval now.
My surgeons office already gave me my out of pocket cost. So I'm not sure if they are basing that off others who may have the same insurance as me idk. But they gave me that price the day I met with my surgeon.
Oh very good. You should be approved very soon. I was told it would take two weeks, but got the approval back in one week. I am supposed to have a very slow to respond and nit picky insurance company, but so far they ave been great. The hospital where I am have it done, OHSU in Portland Oregon, had my surgery scheduled and all my pre op and post op appointments scheduled that day. Good Luck.
My sister received a detailed statement from the insurance company 7 days after her approval. She did not have to pay anything because she had meet all of her deductibles. I, on the other hand, is meeting my surgeon in June, so I am waiting to see how the process will work for me. My sister had a few more medical costs than me because of her family plan. I have not meet my deductible for the year, so it is a wait-and-see.
I know that I will not meet mind because surgery is scheduled for June. I am trying to budget so I can have the money just in case. I am hoping that the insurance company will send me a detail outline and something telling me what I have to pay beforehand. If not, I will just have to see when I go into the surgeon to complete my registration paperwork.
While I didn't know for sure what my cost was going to be, I did look at my health insurance information booklet that I got when I started my job. The booklet said the surgery would be 100% covered except the $125 hospital copay and that ended up being true.
