What protein snacks do you keep in the car/on the go?
Gwen, this is the perfect explanation. I sometimes think of my lifestyle as five snacks and no meals. It is rare that I eat more than 200 calories at a meal.
Yesterday was Easter and I ate ham, salad, asparagus, and some sweet potato at 4:00 PM. I still felt uncomfortable and bloated at midnight.
I don't get hungry and I really don't eat "meals" anymore. Today my "meal" will be a slice of ham alone.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
I don't like the word snack. To most people, snack means treat. Chips, cookies, etc.
My "snacks" are similar in size and calories to my meals. I have 5 meals a day, and no snacks.

i always just looked at it as "feedings". Early on after surgery is was usually six but I fairly quickly dropped it to five as there wasn't that much time between "breakfast" and "lunch". but the feedings were likewise similar in size. I added the sixth back in there working into maintenance as I needed the extra feeding to get the calories up but that dropped out again. Back then the feedings were around 200 calories, give or take a few, and now they're 400.

The Quest bars are good for that use, as they don't have any layering or icing/coatings on them they are heat tolerant so work well for keeping in the car or gym bag. You can keep some jerky around as well if you are into that.
There is some silliness around about how protein bars are just overglorified candy bars, which is much the same as saying that the protein drinks are nothing more than an overglorified milk shake. Neither are ideal in the long run if real food alternatives are available. But if one treats them as a convenience food which we should should try to minimize to the extent that we can, as a convenience food, they aren't bad at all.
I agree with this completely.
There are horrible choices, and there are perfect choices. And a very long range of choices in between. All of us live somewhere in the middle.

I also do not snack. I do keep a few Premium protein shakes in the fridge for days when I have an appointment or have to be somewhere and don't have time (or am too lazy) to make breakfast. That way I can grab one on the go and have the jolt of protein to get me through. On the rare occasion that I happen to be out past the time I should be eating either lunch or dinner, I will also stop and grab some beef jerky to tide me over if I start feeling weak.
I don't eat protein bars because they look and sound like they'd be to much like dessert/candy bars. I know they would trigger the carb monster in me, so they are completely off my list. Not to mention...holy shiznit, the calories!!
If I was in a position where I might be delayed in getting my regular meals often, then I'd probably keep beef jerky in my purse for emergencies. Otherwise, I stick to 3 meals a day.
I always plan my meals and log into MFP but with my job even the best plan can get messed up and I need to have something with me for a meal or snack. It's rare that I use it but in my car I keep a few "chomps" sticks, a couple of bags of protein powder for shakes and a quest protein bar. I also try to figure out if there is a Wendy's in the area because my first choice in that situation would be to get a grilled chicken breast with no bun. If that's not an option I eat one of the snacks in the bag in my car. I should also point out that none of the flavors I have in my car are favorites so in order for me to actually have them it would be a true emergency based on an unexpected schedule change.

Haha, yes. I like Quest bars, but not enough to ever think, "woo! I get to eat a Quest bar!!" More like, "Well, if this is what I have to eat, I'm happy to eat it."
(At least now that my BED is managed. When it wasn't managed I would binge on anything that was available be it lettuce or quest bars or chicken breasts.)

I like tuna pouches a lot. Quest protein bars are great - not going to recommend a flavor because I have no idea what you like!
