one more "can I have" question

I am still pre-op, but preparing for opti and post op. I have given up caffine for quite some time now and I drink only decafinated coffee, I have also given up cream and use powdered whitener. It is 10 calories per tablespoon. I use one tablespoon in my coffee and have 3 coffee a day. Will this be permitted during opti and post op? I can't seem to get to the stage of black coffee, it just doesn't do it for me.

I use heavy cream in my coffee. Lower in carbs that milk or half and half. I was allowed to go back to regular coffee a week after surgery, but it didn't appeal to me for a while. Now I drink one 8 oz cup a day.

Have you read the ingredients in powdered "creamer"?

Glucose Syrup, Palm Oil (including partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oil),[5] Milk Proteins, Stabilisers (Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Sodium Citrate), Acidity Regulator (Dipotassium Phosphate), Emulsifiers (Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids, Mono- and Diacetyl Tartaric Acid Ester of Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Anti-Caking Agent (Silicon Dioxide), Colour: Riboflavin

It should probably carry a warning label like cigarettes.

Dr. Oz did an expose on powdered creamer, that is all I ever used to put in my coffee. Since seeing this episode I now use heavy cream as well:-)

Should everything with scary-sounding chemical names be given a warning label?

I was required decaf only for the first month (healing, you really want to concentrate on water during those first weeks as that's hard enough to get in and your surgery area is basically a man-made ulcer so you want to be healed) but after that was cleared for caffeine. I drink fully leaded (a few cups a day) with a splash of soy milk (lightens it quite nicely and bonus of a few protein grams) and a pump or 2 of SF Vanilla Syrup (basically a splenda flavored suspension.)

I account for the cals, carbs, fat grams, etc. in my daily #'s. It's not something I am willing & or able (for the sake of others around me LOL) to give up. Thankfully I didn't have a sadist surgeon ;)

I personally stopped drinking coffee of any kind and it is almost ten years. I was at a meeting recently in a building that was really cold. They had these big containers of Dunkin Donuts coffee and I drank a cup. I had forgotten how good hot coffee can taste.

As far as the creamer, I still use the old Weigh****chers rule of anything with less than 15 calories is a free food. In my opinion, the whitener during Opti would be a better choice than cream.

You could use almond or cashew milk. They are both options I was given for making my shakes and what I drink now in decaf coffee (if I don't mix it with my protein shake, which is what I do 90% of the time).

I second the almond or cashew milk-the unsweetened, of course.

I use unsweetened cashew milk for my morning yogurt protein "smoothie".

I found this creamer at my grocery store. It's got a little flavor to it, mildly sweet and vaguely coconutty, but it doesn't hit you over the head with the flavor if you're not a coconut fan. ( Oops. The pictures seem ginormous! Lol!! )

HaHa I recognized the shape of the bottle & knew what brand this was, lol. I didn't know they even made creamer, my local store never seems to have it, only the regular stuff.

I do like their cold Brew unsweetened Black n White coffee with almond milk. No added sugar. 45 calories, 2 carbs, 1 protein, 0 sugar, 3.5 fat. It's pretty tasty & is the only cold coffee with numbers I like. I know you like your coffee too.
