Road trip! Food ideas
We are travelling from Ontario to South Carolina and I'm wondering what everyone else packs for road trips. I am only 3 months out so avoiding carbs and I don't eat protein bars. I will be bringing my rtd protein drinks. I was thinking some cold cuts and cheese. Maybe a hard boiled egg- I have not tried those for a while as my pouch wasn't crazy about them before.
Also, we don't have Trader Joe's or Aldis here, and we will be stopping at both. Any suggestions as to what to pick up? We are travelling and have limited cooler space.
Thanks!
RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.
77 lbs lost and counting!
Losing the regain! I got this!
I always take beef jerky with me and I always take whisps. Whips are available at Walmart and they are made only out of Parmesan cheese but they bake it into little rounds that for me help fill the gap when I want a chip or cracker.
Had VSG on 9/28/15
Lost 161 lbs since surgery, LOST 221 lbs overall so far!!
Fun!
I did devilled eggs last trip instead of boiled, and they were great. I also cut up chicken or steak and have that in a baggy. jerky. The small tins of flavoured tuna is great too. A bit carbier than plain, but worth it for some variety every now and then. ( the Thai one mixed with a bit of cream cheese is so tasty to me!)

Love South Carolina!
I get whisps at Costco, they wouldn't require a cooler and I know there are other brands available in the states. I also keep turkey bites on hand for a quick portable snack, they're little pepperoni type things and you can find them all over. Jerky has already been mentioned but I've been making my own and it's another quick and easy one. Not sure how you feel about nuts at this point but I've measured out an ounce here and there and it's worked ok for me. I also found Somersaults a little while ago and I don't think they'll be a regular thing for me because they're too tempting but that might not be the issue for you.

I caution anyone in the losing phase to eat the Somersauts. Not good stats at all. For the Cinnamon Somersaults 14 pieces are 17 carbs and only 8 protein, not good at all.
I had some, loved them and then saw the stats and refused to let them back in my house.

My first trip away I took protein bars (regret this), individual quest protein shake mixes, jerky (you can find bacon jerky in the states -- sooooo good), moon cheese (dried cheese), dried chickpeas (not like the bulk ones, but flavoured ones from the snack section), and quest protein snack things (one was a raspberry/coconut I think).
I also took the little Glad half cup containers so I could measure and carry the snacks. We were at Disneyworld, so I would take a selection with me each day in case I couldn't find a good protein option. If I didn't measure things out I would definitely eat more than a serving.
Also, some of the convenience stores sell two-packs of hard boiled eggs which is handy. I also love the Greek yogurt selections down there. I need to plan another trip to get some!! ??
For the most part I find that protein bars are just glorified chocolate bars and they make me want to eat more chocolate. I find it really hard to manage my eating when they are in the house. I wish I had never started eating them -- I promised myself it was just for my trip, but they keep jumping back into my shopping cart ;)

We love a road trip! Part of it for us is doing local food. We intentionally never pack snacks. It is like anything else in this journey, just make good choices. I had an "animal style" double cheese burger from In and Out on Thursday. It came with grilled onion, pickle, tomato, lettuce and sauce. I ordered it without the sauce. I tossed the bun and ate half. My 4 legged garbage disposal had the rest.
Go enjoy the local flavors!
