I'm heading to Italy Sunday for two weeks. Am very excited and consider it a major event since I never would have been physically able to do it before surgery.

I'm looking for suggestions for portable sources of protein, besides nuts, which I'll bring but don't want to rely too heavily (no pun intended) on them given how calorie dense they are. Someone recommended jerky but I have problems digesting it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Are there any types of protein bars that your stomach can tolerate? They're not something you want to rely on long-term for protein, but they'd work well for a situation like this.

How about protein drink powder in individual packets? You could pack a blender bottle and make them up with water.

When I've been in Norway post-op I live on smoked salmon and the ubiquitous salami type meats. As long as you're close to civilization, you shouldn't have a problem finding things.

When I travel, I bring jerky and nuts along with a few Quest protein bars. For jerky, I like the Pacific Gold from Costco. I get the big bag with the individual packages inside. I'd imagine in Italy you'd be able to find lots of local protein choices as well. Have a great time!

So jealous!!

A few ideas: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2015/10/healt hy-travel-tips-keeping-your-health.html

Italy should be an easy one for eating though... cheeses and meats at a market, fish especially if you are headed to Sicily. Breakfast would be the hardest I think... I'd go for the travel packets of protein, shaker & just ge****er or milk as needed.

Enjoy!!

I'm in the air every two weeks. My emergency kit is: Salmon jerky, beef jerky, almonds, protein powder (water soluble). It is alway with me when I travel. I can go without eating, but I will get a headache if I don't.

Unjury sells individual serving packets of protein powder. I buy the plain. Mixed with 8 oz of milk it's 28 grams of protein. Sardines and packets of tuna are also easy to travel with.
