No, no one talks about it. This makes me annoyed! I was quite unprepared for horrible periods and crazy lady mood swings, which I have never before experienced. The gynecologist had to give me progesterone to control my moods. She said this happens to women when they are pregnant or post-partum

Best birth control ever, that sentence. >.>

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

You surgeons didn't warn you at a 10% weight loss can start ovulation? Abdominal surgery is also well know to restart menopausal hot flashes. I get that there is a lot to cover pre op but this seems like it should be close to the top of the list...especially since you ovulate BEFORE you get your period...or don't get your period because you are pregnant. Yikes!

Maybe this was discussed because I had a female surgeon? I really appreciated the information a week post op when I woke up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat.

Very common. Hormones are crazy with major weight loss. Things will settle down - or this may be your new normal. No way of knowing.

One thing to keep in mind - watch your iron and ferritin numbers. With a very heavy period, remember you're losing blood. You don't want your iron to get too depleted - keep an eye out for iron deficiency anemia.

I'm on my 2nd Mirena iud and haven't had much of a period for 8 years - until I had surgery. I'm glad for the iud as it's still a light period but after not having one, it's still a surprise each month.
