A question for the ladies...**warning maybe tmi**

Before i had my surgery i had regular periods but they were very light. They were around 3 days long, they were fairly regular. This is my first REAL PERIOD after surgery. I have lost 29lbs since surgery by 40 overall. I got my period yesterday and it's like a FLOOD. I'm not even kidding...like a slaughter (I'm sorry if that's TMI...) I know from the past when I get real heavy my periods are very light....and I don't think i "SHED" everything in those light periods...

I feel like I'm shedding a year's worth of build up. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, Ma'am, happened to me too. According to the doc, as I lost weight the excess hormones stored in the fat released & made my periods irregular & heavy. After a few months everything regulated itself. Periods have been perfect ever since.

It is likely that you were not ovulating at your higher weight and started up again. Some woman stop having their periods completely but others do not.

Your first few cycles might be heavy but if it continues beyond that you should have a gym exam.

I got pregnant at 47 after losing 80 pounds... be careful.

Fat stores hormones. So as you lose fat, all those hormones are getting flushed back into your system.

Your period is likely going to be very different, and this is also why they remind any woman of child bearing age to be EXTRA careful with birth control because it can cause increased fertility, and hormonal BC may not be enough since your hormones are crazy for quite some time! So sexy times might just need some extra precautions for a while. DO speak to your doctor about this if this is of concern.

You should also be very aware that those hormones can cause mood swings like you've never seen. Depression, anger, crying, super happy one minute and white-hot rage the next... just remember it's likely the hormone dump that is happening as you lose weight, warn close friends and family members that you might be weird sometimes and it's not them, and if you feel crazy/weepy or out of control, take a step back and try to remind yourself to breathe through those feelings and not let them cause you do do any damage to yourself or your relationships.

Periods are totally screwy immediately post-op due to the hormone dumping and everything. They should stabilize before too long!
