Pin Points of Pain during Weight Loss....... anyone?

I had RNY in May 2006 and bottomed out at 211 lbs (Started at 390) within a year. I never did what the doctor ordered: Develop an active lifestyle and make better food choices so the tool would work for me. I had ramped back to 270 this past Thanksgiving. I bounced between 250 and 270 several times but never went past 270.

That was a rude awakening this past fall and I swore I would do something about it. I started walking about 4-5 miles a day and really began to enjoy it. I have lost 40.7 pounds since Dec 13th, and my goal is 200 lbs by June 1. I am at 229.3 this morning.

Here is the reason for my post. This happened when I lost the initial 171 lbs in 2006 as well. Since Dec, I have sharp pin points of pain in my muscle tissue. Hurts like hell, too. Seems to be in different places, like the love handles (hips) mostly and now I have one in my left pectorial muscle. If I roll over at night, these things hurt to the point of really waking me up.

Anyone ever experienced this? Why?

As I was losing weight, my center of gravity misaligned. My nerve would get pinched and would get pains. I use chiropractor a lot.

Also - make sure you are getting enough proteins. As we lose weight- our body would not only use fat but also muscles. Breaking down muscles for energy or repair hurts.

We lose padding - so we may pinch nerves as we roll on a side. I used to be side sleeper. Now - as I lost my regain - I can sleep on my back - and maybe one hour - at most, on my side.

Thanks, seems to be in the muscle. I am not working my upper body as I wanted to get bulk of this 70 lbs off first. Hopefully once I start slowly on Exercise equip this may resolve itself. Thanks for replying.

Do you have your vitamin levels checked regularly? Some vitamin deficiencies cam cause joint or more systemic pain.

Did in August and will again late this summer. My GP knows little about bariatric patients and their needs....

If you are in pain...it's time to get medical attention.

The issue with knowing "little" is that the doctor doesn't know what to ask or what to test. You need to go to a specialist. Generalized pain is not normal..and should be diagnosed.

I had some pain which sounds similar to yours right after I hit maintenance. It has gone away since then.

Are you drinking enough water? Dehydration sometimes shows up as pain your muscles.

Absolutely. I drink nearly 1-1/2 gallons a day. Plenty. This pain feels like a needle being pushed into my muscles. A very pointed small point of pain...... My muscle tissue isn't atrophied by no means but had not tone to speak of from my waist up. Simply because I was not an active person until I started walking 4-5 miles a day back in early Dec.
