So Conflicted - Advice Needed
Now that the sleeve is more common, I see even my own surgeon directing young women towards it rather than the RNY. For him I know it is also women can have more iron issues....
That being said, why was having the RNY important for me? I was at a point in my life where I wasn't crazy eating or binging, but the damage had been done. At that point even when I would go on a diet (restriction), no matter what I did I could only lose 10lbs at most. I was afraid the restriction of the sleeve wasn't going to be enough. I wanted restriction and the advantage of malabsorption to get me on my way.... I still needed to learn good habits and it hasn't been easy...
Good Luck.

So how are you doing? Any more consideration? Did surgeon say absolutely 'No' on RNY?

Best of luck on you decision. It sounds like you have educated yourself on the pros and cons of each, so just go with your gut. I went to my surgeon wanting a VSG after my research and she threw me a curve ball by suggesting either the RNY or VSG. I did more research (a lot on OH where it seems there are more RNY than VSG), but in the end went back to deciding the VSG was right for me. I did lose 100% of my excess weight, but I was under a 40 BMI.
