Kidney stone!!!

Not fun! My brother in law used to get those all of the time working as a landscaper in Atlanta. His doctor told him to buy a 12 pack of crappy beer. Take one and put it in his crotch and open another. Cycle between the crotch and emptying cans. Between the little bit of cold and the massive amount amounts of fluids/alcohol it worked. My brother in law drinks about once a year and he hated doing that but it worked. He tried it with water and it made the pain worse. Obviously not a great idea for us, I'm just sharing.

I'm not a drinker, so not sure that would work, but I'm all over the foul tasting liquid Vicodin. I have never felt pain like this. Makes sleeve surgery seem like a feather brushing against my arm. When the painkillers are wearing off, I keep throwing up from the pain. Can't wait for this to be over.

Yep, 64 oz is the minimum amount of water we need everyday. I drink an oz of water for every oz of protein...well I try too.

Liquid Vicodin is nasty, why can't you take tablets? I took them in the first hour after surgery.

Kidney stone stories sort of remind me of childbirth horror stories... My husband had a stone last year. He had a slight back acho for a few hours and then, all of a sudden, he was clutching his naughty bits and screaming in pain. The stone was so large that when it passed that it made a splash in the toilet. The good news was that the pain stopped immediately. His was mostly calcium not protein.

Hopefully by the time you read this, it is already over for you!

My surgeon is anti anything larger than a baby aspirin for 3 months, so since the doctor was going to give me Norco anyway and I had a full untouched bottle of the same thing in liquid from my surgery, I figured I'd just take that.

Funny enough, I had my 5 week post surgery appt 3 hours before this and was feeling just fine!!

Not only do I get kidney stones frequently but I lost one kidney to cancer- so I've had to have the stones removed surgically and/or get stents.

My dr gives me medicine normally given to men with prostrate problems (pharmacist usually looks at me blankly). I believe its called FLOMAX or something similar (I'm at work or I'd go grab it and check). It makes you pee like a race horse... flushes them out.

The nausea is what kills me..I can usually take the pain.

Good luck.

I got Flomax too! And the vomiting from the pain was something I've never experienced and pray I don't again...

So 10.5 hours of sheer agony later, it passed into my bladder at 12:30am. I haven't "heard" from it since, but seeing as I was unable to pee for all that time (while feeling the urgency to, akin to a bladder infection) I've been going ever since.

Aside from drinking a lot more everyday, how on earth do I keep this from happening again with all the protein I'm eating?

Calcium carbonate can actually cause kidney stones whereas calcium citrate can help reduce them. So make sure you're supplementing with the correct type of calcium.

Other than that? Drink a lot. All the time. Whee.
