Oh that's so sad Peach. I have a good friend-- who is also a colleague of Jamaican heritage. Her mother and older siblings speak Patois and English -- but sadly, she can only understand it but cannot produce it. She was the baby of the family -- the only one born here -- and her mama didn't want her to "sound Jamaican" or learn her language. :-(

It is with my friend that I have had Easter Bun! -- I absolutely love her family's food. She makes a dish that has salted pork or fish in a fruit called Akee (spelling?) that is delicious -- but my favorite dish is this chicken stew she makes that is spicy but also sweet with cinnamon and spices.

I hope your kids wake up and embrace learning more about coming from such an amazing culture.

Can you cut it into wedges and wrap it to give away to friends, keeping just a small slice for yourself?

I haven't met a friend who actually likes it. Funny thing is my next door neighbors are Jamaican-- and they would be glad for me to make them one. But the way Jamaicans are-- they would want a whole one, they'd not eat a piece given to them....hmmm if I buy mini loaf pans I could turn my recipe for one into two...

I think I may do that! I can deal with a mini loaf-

Food addict in me has been emotional eating with "heathy faux carb" recipes...protein pancakes and such. May not do as much damage but still is not a healthy substitute...

I follow a really neat low carb food blog ( non WLS ), but the author drives me batty with her "healthy low carb grain free cookies!!" "Healthy low carb sugar free chocolate cake for two!" Uhhh...

No, no they are not "healthy"; just "not quite as bad" for us.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

Oh I so relate to all of you! I always said cookies are my favorite food group. I have met very few cookies that I don't like. I know that if I will NEVER be in a place where I can eat just one or two.

My daughter (now at college) was a girl scout from 1st grade through 12th and having those cookies in the house was like crack for me. Its a relief not to have to deal with that while I am on this journey. Last week when I passed some Girl Scouts outside of my grocery store I gave them money to donate boxes to the military and quickly walked away, I could hear the thin mints screaming "Shari, come back, we miss you!" But, I kept on walking.

About 15 years ago, I wrote a nasty-gram to Ben and Jerry's. I told them they needed to sell single serving sizes, because a pint, for me, is a single serving size. It just spells disaster. I must not have been the only one, cos about a year later, they started selling half cup-single serving containers.

As far as now, I have one of my refrigerator drawers full of power crunch protein bars. If I get a craving, I just have one or two of those. They may have 10 carbs and upwards of 205 calories each, but I don't feel a lick of guilt about eating them!!!

Totally. Other people are completely capable of moderation. I, however, am not and I probably never will be.

Even when I had sugar free puddings I could go on a bender with them. Or I can leave them.

So this weekend my husband was out of town. Saturday I went to the gym and ran a bunch of errands and when I got home, I had some leftovers for dinner. Now, I don't remember if it was something on TV or something I was reading online, but I got thinking of the Reese's Peanut Butter eggs I have in the pantry. Now, these are eggs that I bought LAST YEAR after Easter when they were a DIME each. I think I bought 10 and there are still a bunch left. So I go digging and I found one. Along with a few pieces of Aussie-style black licorice and a Cadbury Caramello bar I bought in Edinburgh in October.

NONE of this stuff was fresh. The egg was fine, the licorice was kind of hard and the candy bar was okay. I ate it all anyway. Why? I don't know. I felt just terrible afterwards. Just like a giant lump. I texted my husband, "Why did I eat all that candy? Uuuuuggggghhhhhhh."

It's never ending.
