I had surgery last year just after my 61st birthday. My main reasons were to reduce high blood pressure and avoid diabetes (I was pre-diabetic). Both were accomplished and I feel better than I have in 40 years.
The risk of complications is extremely low these days (about the lowest of any surgery). The surgery was easy for me - no nausea and little pain. I was back at work (desk job) in 2 weeks but could have been in 1 week if I had to. You will find many people here in their 50s and 60s who have had WLS (weight loss surgery).
