Chia or Sunflower?
I've decided I have to give up my Fiber One cereal in the morning, just too many carbs and I can get my fiber other ways. I still want some crunch to stir into my morning yogurt, and I'm thinking either chia seeds or sunflower kernels.
Nuts are off the table as an option because I hate them lol
Here are my questions:
Chia Seeds: I've never tried them, but bought a small bag. Will 1/2 tbsp in my yogurt cup give me the crunch I want? Or are the seeds too small?
Sunflower kernels: I have unsalted roasted kernels. I see there are raw ones as well, but never tried them. For my flavored yogurt, do you think the raw would be better? Will they still have the crunch of roasted kernels?
Thanks up front for your help...I know I can try them but don't want to waste a perfectly good yogurt if it's pointless!
I've used Chia seeds before. We used to let them soak overnight in cashew milk and they would sort of swell up overnight and make a sort of pudding that was pretty tasty. I think that raw sunflower seeds might not have the crunch you're looking for.
Between the two options, I'd go for the chia seeds. A quick search shows 100g of sunflower seeds has a bit more protein than 100g of chia seeds (21 vs 17), but I think the chia would give you a more satisfying crunch and a bit less fat if that's a concern for you. Which it may not be!

No I never have. I've been doing some searching and I found something I think I'm going to try, though. I would love granola but most of it has too much sugar and is loaded with nuts...yuck!
I just found this and I ordered it, I think it might be just the ticket!

It's really easy to make your own granola! Just put the ingredients on a cookie sheet and toast in the oven. Oats, seeds, and nuts as you like, spices, splenda, a little bit of lemon juice and oil.

I will happily admit that I am entirely too unmotivated to make my own granola--at least for now. Just having to do all the cooking I have to do now is bad enough lol. No family, just me, so I do as much slow cooker/batch cooking as I can so all I have to do is nuke something from the freezer.
Once I meet my goal and feel lots better and have more energy...maybe then I'll be more motivated to do something like making granola, etc. At least I hope so!
