Did your spouse/SO/partner lose weight?

Unfortunately my husband has struggled with his weight his whole life but has managed to maintain (how I don't know).

I am guessing he would have lost weight had he not gotten into a very bad habit of eating whatever I don't. He was raised being told to finish everything on his plate so he has a hard time when my plate still has food on it. This is especially bad when we do go out to eat. We have learned tricks like sharing and ordering small plates. Many times he and I do not like the same foods yet he will eat my leftovers......

Recently he has been working much harder to stay on a high protein low carb menu plan and thankfully he is not bringing home so much junk.

One of my biggest challenges is with "left overs". When I was living on our farm I always had takers! The dogs ate left over chicken, the chickens ate almost anything BUT leftover chicken (because we didn't allow it, trust me, they would have loved it). And odd things went to red worms, outside compost, or meal worm farm (and the worms eventually went to the chickens). Our dairy goats loved misc veggies and any bread type of food, they also managed harder veggies like carrots much easier (there for woofed them down faster) than the chickens. I never felt like I was wasting a drop of food! Even the goat milk that got contaminated (goat stepping into milk pan...) was recycled to the dogs or chickens :)

My hubby's weight hasn't changed.

We did Atkins in 2010 and I never fully reincorporated starches and sugar back into my diet. He did..lol. He's very active and maintains his weight.

The 3 years between Atkins and surgery-I stayed mostly low carb with some spurts of crappy eating. ( My portions were crazy big. I was a volume eater for sure. Two big huge plates of low carb food is still not smart...haha. )

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

One of my partners hasn't seen much change in his weight, but his composition has changed so his body fat is lower. He's a marathoner, so he was in pretty good condition prior to my surgery. My other partner, on the other hand, has had great improvements. He's lost about 40-50 pounds in the last three years and, even better, he has started swimming regularly, and now studies Aikido and yoga.

I weighed more than both of them when I started. It was a happy day when I weighed less than Art and just recently I'm low enough below Lance that the scale has stopped asking me to confirm my identity. It's pretty great.

A number of my friends have also lost weight and one told me, "you know, seeing you make all these changes finally made me realize that I can't fix my weight just with diets, I need to find a way of eating I can stick to for forever, because this is a forever thing." So this impacts more people than we might think!

I live with my mother and I swear she is not only eating everything I make for myself but also eating all the bad things in the world and has gained weight.

I asked her to confine her jelly beans, Peanut M&Ms, chocolate chip biscotti, and gingersnaps to her bedroom but now I cannot even bring her clothes in without having to confront the ginormous jar of jelly beans, or the peanut M&Ms sitting open on the dresser. There is now always an open loaf of some kind of sourdough bread sitting on the counter. Aaand my egg custard and spinach frittata also get eaten.

The good news: I am now wearing a smaller size than my mother is, and she is noticing. Things may change soon ;)

My husband has started tracking his food religiously on MFP and he's lost about 50lb since I had surgery. I'm super proud of him!

That's amazing. So far I've been unable to get John to track, but he doesn't have soda anymore, walks every day and has eased up on the bread. I know he's going to get to a point where he plateaus because he'll be eating at maintenance and I'm hoping I can get him to track then.

Mine lost 50lbs along with me, almost just as fast too. He cut out all the extras, and ate the all meat diet with me. He said that looking at me eat 2-4oz of food made his 1lb plates look crazy. He went down to 8-10oz and the weight just left with the extra portions. As we've curved past a year mark I'm at about 6-8oz portions and he's now back to his 12-16oz plates but the contents are totally different.

My hubby was only a few pounds overweight to start, but has packed on about 15# since my surgery. He grew up in the clean-your-plate club, but now feels like he has a responsibility to clean mine as well! He's starting to feel sluggish with the extra pounds, and is trying to stop doing that. LOL.

My husband now weighs 45 pounds less than he did in June 2014 when I started my pre-op diet and was later sleeved in August 2014. In 4 months he lost about 20 pounds thanks to not eating Oreos and watching me eat more slowly and less. That "wife goes on a diet and husband loses weight" thing is real and has happened at our house many times before WLS.

Then two months after my VSG he was diagnosed with cancer and, through two rounds of chemo and two rounds of radiation, has lost another 25 pounds. He now weighs 195, where he's much more comfortable and where he works hard to stay.

These days he no longer has an eating partner-in-crime when/if he starts jonesing for ice cream. And needless to say, the food he eats now is very nutritious, given his need to stay as strong as possible between cancer / treatment bouts.
