Question for the vets re: bread
This does not meet my rule of thumb of "must have no more than 10 calories per 1 gram of protein."

A couple of thoughts... I chose to ax bread (and a couple of other things) post WLS. I know me... and a 1/2 a slice would become a whole slice and soon enough I dare say I'd be eating half a crusty Italian loaf at the stoplight on the way home from the store. It was my thing... so instead of opening the door and even to something like this (it would probably only make me miss and crave the real deal more) some foods are just not my foods anymore and so I rarely think/crave/want them. There is a reason a drug dealer gives someone a little taste of something... it makes you want more. Bread was my drug.
Now... that being said... it's the way my journey needs to be... some people can do moderation just fine or maybe bread wasn't there thing... maybe it was cake or chips or chocolate (I could have chocolate for a year sitting in front of me and pass it by)... or maybe it was quantity or grazing... you know your thing. We are all unique snowflakes... we weren't affected by obesity for the same reasons and our road away from it won't be the same.

So on a personal note I had to stay away from replacement foods. I just made a totally new diet and stuck to that. I didn't do sugar-free anything, I just don't think artificial sugars are a good idea. So that took away sodas, most yogurts, and a lot of processed low-calorie foods. So in combo of getting rid of all artificial sugars, I also skipped the replacement foods category as well. I will say that bread seems to be a good alternative to bread that has calories with little substance. But I think it just makes a person want bread, and if that bread is ok, what about if your out and order a sandwich? Or if you're eating "good for you chips" and then your our and order "not good for you chips". There seems to be a whole industry of food replacements which are in some ways "better" but in a lot of ways are just weird crutches for the real issue at hand: no one needs bread to eat a sandwich. I've grown to think of bread as napkins. I still enjoy meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomato but I just do roll ups. When I was early out I just ate the meat and cheese. I have some more room now and I have some spread or tomato if I want.
Anyway if you really love the bread and it makes you deliriously happy then count it in your macros for the day and adjust to make it work out for you. Or ditch the napkins and have more meat :-)

The cake is a lie, but Starbucks is not.
I eat the same bread-type things Laura does the Joseph's flax pita and an occasional low carb tortilla. That is in maintenance. I don't 'love' them so there isn't the same trigger. While losing I had an occasional- not weekly or anything even close to that- either a low cab pita to make a 'pizza' or 1/2 a Thomas lite English Muffin. In maintenance, I have given up the English Muffins... I like them a little too much and since I am not trying to lose it is too easy to give myself permission.

Post-op, bread doesn't feel good in my pouch. Sometimes I do have bread, and I also notice that my weight loss isn't necessarily where I want it to be that week. However, having bread nowadays just makes me feel uncomfortable so I largely avoid it. You'll develop new eating patterns and habits after surgery, so I wouldn't even begin to mentally shop for things like this after surgery. I wasn't even cleared to eat bread until 9 months post-op.
Things that I eat now are probably really weird, but they help me with my goals, and pre-op I would have never thought I would be eating these things. For instance, I just eat some lunch meat wrapped around a cheese stick. Roast beef wrapped around a stick of cheddar and then heated in the microwave until the cheese is slightly melted is quite delicious and filling. No bread needed.

I eat bread but I couldn't eat for about 8 months after my vsg (because my little stomach didn't like it) but I did eat 1 slice toast every morning more 4+ years after vsg. I would say if you like it go for it and I'm not sure if you do net carbs but out of the 11 carbs 5 are fiber so it's only 4 net carbs so it is a very nice choice for bread
