Can anyone tell me about their experience with the Use it topamx or Vynase for BED? Any information about how long you have used it or if you have tried to stop taking it....

I am on Vyvanse and I have less anxiety, better nails (I used to tear my nails up incessantly when I didn't eat), and I have had no distinct binge episodes since starting it. I've used it 6-7 months? I tolerate it very well, and it compliments my therapy very well. Therapy made a better difference by far, but the Vyvanse helps tremendously. It doesn't reduce my appetite really, oddly enough, it just reduces my, well, compulsive need to consume things, I guess. With me it was a true compulsion, and I've found that gone. I've also had not one episode with a loss of control sensation, which is a miracle.

Oh, it's still very easy to overeat when stressed. It helps with the impulsive compulsions so much, though.

The thing with stimulants is their effects wear off when they are discontinued. I expect to take Vyvanse, or another stimulant, for the rest of my life and/or being in therapy.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

My signature says when I started taking it. I stopped taking it for the week of Christmas because my schedule was all screwed up and my BED habits came back in full force almost immediately. While on it, aside from that week, I've had one instance of binge eating. I'm very happy with my Vyvanse experience.

I've been taking Vyvanse for a month and a half now and so far I feel like it's helping me to feel less out of control. I haven't had any serious binge episodes, and I've had a lot of stress lately.

I know it's not a cure all, but so far I feel like it's helped me stop that out of control feeling I had before.

I can't speak to Vyvanse, but I did take Topamax for a while for my bipolar. They call it "stupamax" for a reason-- it's notorious for causing cognitive difficulty. My short-term memory went completely on the fritz, and I would completely forget random words, which was frustrating... entertaining for my husband, though. "Honey, can you bring me a bottle of water out of the... the big box? In the kitchen? It keeps things cold and we put soda in it?"

OMG, I can so relate. That particular type of aphasia (forgetting names of things) is specific to Topamax, to the point that the neurologists refer to it as "the Topamax effect". I have also described the "big box cold food storage thing" in the kitchen to my Ex. Or the "rolly-thing you sit on" (office chair). LOL.

They put my teenaged daughter on it for her migraines, and the neurologist said "we up the dosage until the migraines stop, or she gets stupid".

I was on it for migraine prevention, and we had escalated into the seizure treatment dosage range because we hadn't realized that nutrasweet was a huge migraine trigger for me, and I was drinking tons of diet sodas.

I've been off of it for some 8-9 years now, and they're trialling me on it again since my migraines have escalated, but I'm on the lookout for the aphasia. It's some crazy stuff.
