Inquiring Kathy wants to know? How do you count your carbs? Carbs vs Net Carbs
In my losing stages...meaning initial losing, and regain episodes, I counted net carbs...
Now, in maintenance, though I still PLAN and TRACK, I count overall carbs. I find eat fewer that way, and my weight stays more stable. I plan for 100 Gm protein daily, so I will get 80, and plan to keep my carbs at 60, so they will stay under 80. :)

Hi Gina,
That is what I found....when I had my regain I felt so bad. I think that is what finally kicked my butt into gear. If I do the net carbs it would be too many for me. Interesting that you did the net carbs while losing and with your regain. Was that a personal choice or your surgeon recommended it?

Purely personal. I was too embarrassed to go back to my surgeon. I had to finally get REALLY angry, with myself. I fiddle farted around, not reaching goal until I was NINE YEARS post op. So many wasted years!!! In retrospect, I do believe it puts me in a better position to pay it forward, to others, who may be struggling, or blindly doing stupid things, that I know will lead them into the regain abyss. I have been under goal, for 6 years now, but only through planning, tracking, support, and continued OH participation!!

ALL carbs, not just net carbs.
The crap that a lot of manufacturers call fiber is not truly fiber. It DOES affect blood sugar, as anyone who checks their blood sugar after eating a protein bar full of 'fiber" can attest.
And net carbs is NOT a nutrition measurement, it is an advertising gimmick. You will NEVER see net carbs on a Nutrition Facts label on food. That's because it is not legal. The only time you see net carbs is on the frony of the label, next to the pretty food picture. Because it's advertising.
If people want to do low carb, do low carb. Doing net carbs is just trying to have your cake and eat it too.

It's still not in the "Nutrition Facts" box. Just part of the hype on the rest of the packaging.

But look at the calories! 250! For 1 bar! I uses to eat a lot a Atkins bars & would get into the net carb thing, but the 1 thing I couldn't look past is the calorie count. It was tasty, & it could never be a meal for me. It was an overblown candy bar as far as I was concerned.

Before I had surgery, I did Atkins for a few years ( off and on..haha ) and then I counted net carbs.
After surgery, I figured it was in my best interest to count total carbs. It just works better for me.
