What's something you didn't consider before WLS?

I mean the little comical things that make you go "Well, that's not something I considered". For me:

  1. My slippers fall off when I walk down the stairs. I had skinny feet before surgery, how did they possibly shrink more?
  2. My totally normal average weight husband is losing weight almost as fast as I am. Because of course the universe is evil. My ultimate goal was to weigh less than him and he's lowered it by 10lbs already!

What about you?

I had not considered that I'd need/want plastic surgery after loosing significant weight. It never even crossed my mind.

I agree. I stuggled so much with this when I got to goal and wasn't happy. I felt like a fraud - I looked thin, I was thin, and I looked alright dressed in clothes, but holy cow. Don't undress me! It was a like someone popped my bubble. How could I be thin and still hate the way I looked nekked? Unfair!

Plastics helps, but it is far from a perfect solution either.

I was 44, when I had WLS. I honestly, truly did it for health reasons, and to live to see my boys grow up. To be a Sports Illustrated model, or sleep with Richard Gene was never really on my bucket list...

Fast forward almost 15 years...Christie Brinkley is older than me, doing SI photo shoot...Richard Gere is still damn hot...I have lost 185 lbs, and have enough extra skin to cover every mummy in Pompeii...I honestly never thought I would care...

Yesterday my 4 year old GD brought her cousin over, to see GiGi's "arm wings"...Madi is fascinated by them...and the way "GiGi's legs swim and she's not even moving. She's just sitting on the pool steps"...

At least I am cheap entertainment...

Interesting. Did you not attend any support groups pre-op? The two main things talked about (and what people ask me about now) are loose skin and hairloss. I also attended a lot of seminars and conferences in my area and I noticed most of us as a group do not seem to lose the weight evenly (we are a pretty lumpy/bumpy bunch) so I was aware that most of us will need some work done.

Laura- for ME, I KNEW, and expected it, but honestly didn't think I would CARE. I don't REALLY stress about it now, or I would FIND a way/money...But it surprises me that I care as much as I DO

That makes sense. I had my arms done as soon as I got to goal. Not really for vanity- I just wanted to blend into society. I thought I could live with the rest, but it drove me crazy mentally so I then had my lbl/bl. My legs are still a hot-mess, but I am too old to care about them anymore

I did attend a group, but it was locally organized, very small, and only 2 people who were many years post-op and unsuccessful. So..... yeah. Never even crossed my mind.
