What is a Diet Myth You Totally Bought Into? --

I also concur with the whole low-fat craze. I grew up in the 80s and 90s thinking that low-fat equaled healthy. I can't tell you the countless amount of Snackwells cookies that I ate thinking I would lose weight. I can still taste those little devil food chocolate cookies. I also tortured myself for YEARS with fat-free cheese and sour cream. I would rather eat dirt than ever touch low-fat diary again!! The wonderful way fat free cheese never melted and tasted like rotten rubber in your mouth.

I remember reading Susan Powter's book when I was like 13 (lady that yelled all the time with spiky blond hair) and she was one of the biggest proponents of low-fat living. I thought she had all the answers to getting my chubby little butt skinny.... didn't work!! I wonder what she is doing now....

If anyone hasn'****ched the documentary Fed Up, you totally should! It's such an eye opener about the sugar industry and how politics and government influence played into the whole low-fat craze and even in the initiative that Michelle Obama started for healthier kids. It was supposed to focus on changing eating patterns but too many food lobbyists got upset so it changed to the "get up and move" program or whatever. It's really sad what a "healthy American diet" is and how unhealthy it actually is. No wonder diets don't work! Most of us have no idea what to put in our mouths so we just put the crap that is being pushed on us 24/7.

You mean I can't eat an entire package of SnackWell cookies and lose weight???

I literally would eat them for lunch and think I was "healthy" because they were low-fat.

True story.

Susan Powter... OMG...

I was in my mid twenties... my best friend and I made a HUGE pot of lentils... and fresh salsa... and ate nothing but lentils and salsa (and probably chips with that salsa! LOL)...

We power-walked everyday!

I gained like 5 pounds on that diet!

I wrapped myself in saran wrap to burn more calories while I worked out... (you know, sweat more!)

But wait for it... I slathered on Bengay first...

Once that **** started burning, I couldn't' get the saran wrap off fast enough!!! I think I burned my skin on that crap!!!

OK, Kat... celery isn't a negative calorie food???! REALLLLLLY?

a stalk of celery has about five calories and I have heard that it takes more that five calories of energy to chew it. I still can't eat celery without barfing.... so in my case it's definitely the case.

Omg !! The Saran Wrap yes I did it too ... rubber waist trainers ... sauna like sweat suits to run and " sweat off the lbs " in while you stroke out ..

my worst was making my Manhattan kitchen into a sauna and sleeping in it ( on a camping cot while I paid thousands in rent lol) to keep off 15 or so lbs ...

diet wise : it was eat and barf ... I'm so disgusted just thinking about it but honestly I really truly imagined I was being a feminist
