What is a Diet Myth You Totally Bought Into? --

Calories in/ calories out was all that mattered.

For example I could eat 2000 calories and loose weight if I managed to burn 2500 at the gym.

My top myths:

  1. The food pyramid.
  2. Low fat is better for you.
  3. Red meat and eggs raise cholesterol.
  4. Orange juice is healthy.
  5. Salads are good for losing weight.

OMG The orange juice is healthy thing or any kind of juice with MOUNDS of sugar in it is good for you myth. It makes me cringe every time I hear people say that. I saw a dude pounding a carton of OJ and said how healthy he was. smh

I was just going to post the food pyramid but you beat me to it. K and salads are okay for losing weight if you do not drown them in dressing, you salad hater.

I think it was Suzanne Summers who came out with a diet that you only can mix some food groups together and lose weight... while mixing the wrong food groups together would cause weight gain. Doh!

Food pyramid and the whole low-fat bs! I did well for many years maintaining my wt loss using Robert Atkins....all the doctors put fear into me regarding ketosis. Blah,blah,blah...so pasta and whole grains became my new diet. I was so confused when I gained 100+ lbs eating healthy?

I definitely fell for both starvation mode and negative calorie food. Multiple times.

I also fell for the idea that any 'juice' is healthy - regardless of the sugar content.

Anything considered a salad is healthy.

I feel like as an adult I caught on pretty fast to the most common ones, mostly because I had been a Type I diabetic since I was 13. I quickly figured out that carbs are not great for everyone (especially not the SAD recommendations that want me eating 220 day?!). And therefore, low carbs often times means high(er) fat.

I do remember being maybe...13 or so and eating a whole king size package of Runts because they were fat-free and therefore had no calories (of course) and telling my mother and her being happy with my choice.

Oy vey.

Before surgery, I certainly felt like starvation mode was a thing. Also; the whole "you gained muscle weight" when working out for 2.5 days. It was heartbreaking when I learned that was actually water weight!
