Surgery #2 (RNY) and Hernia Repair Scheduled for March 29, 2017
I've been away for a while to get mentally prepared for surgery #2. My surgeon has decided to repair the hiatal hernia and perform the RNY to relieve the bile reflux which is horrible.
Over the past 7 months, I've gained 30 pounds. This has been mentally challenging and at times depressing. I know I did not fail at this and I know my surgery did not fail me. Hernias happen. Bile reflux happens. Life happens.
I still weigh & log my food daily. I do not drink with meals and I still wait 30 minutes after meals. I average 100g of protein and 80 oz of fluid daily.
The reactive hypoglycemia is being controlled by eating 6 mini meals per day. I can't have too many carbs in one sitting (anything over 10-15 carbs causes a hot flash & anxiety attack).
I do think I am a bit more prepared 2 years later (VSG done 3/31/15). I know what to expect after surgery and the importance of following my meal plan. The weight loss may take longer but I got determination in my back pocket!
Its good that you know what's ahead of you and that you have any realistic expectations. This is something that skitters through my head on occasion as I have had horrible reflux in the past, which has improved since returning to a proper protein rich diet, but is still present. And I too have a hiatal hernia. Good Luck on your journey!!

I wish you the very best on your upcoming surgery. I know reflux is miserable from hearing others experiences. I sincerely hope that the RNY and hernia repair helps to solve that problem for you!

Some people have had great success with the revision to RNY solving their reflux problem, so hope it does the same for you...plus hiatal hernia can contribute to the reflux, so hopefully win-win if they are both solved. The acid does make you hungrier too... so that can be a battle.
Good Luck!

Thank you for the words of confidence.
My surgeon stated he has over 95% success with the RNY solving the bile reflux. Along with the hernia repair, I am positive I can reach my goal weight.
I now understand eating as though you have a bottomless stomach! My caloric intake has doubled and there seems to be no satisfying my hunger.
I've learned that WLS and dealing with everything that comes along with it is not for the faint-hearted! ;-)
But I am determined...
Hey stranger! You've been missed!
