Hello, I am new here. Just looking for some helpful advice.
I am just beginning my journey, I have completed all testing that is necessary to get surgery. I plan to get the sleeve surgery. Due to my insurance wait time, I cannot get surgery until May of this year. So I am doing the waiting period now. I am very excited to get this done! I am wondering if pain is terrible after surgery, how long did people wait to return to work. I have a very easy sit down job, so I am hoping to not be off work long.

Most people seem to be out of work for 2 weeks, maybe 3. That gives you plenty of time to rest and recover, and you'll (probably) be progressed past a liquid-only diet by the time you return to the office.

I'm an IT geek with the ability to work from home part-time. I had the surgery on Wed, and worked from home starting the following Monday, and returning to the office a week after that. I wish I'd taken off at least a full week and pushed out going back to the office by another week. But I was fairly new at the job (just under a year at that point) and felt I needed to do that. It was OK, but VERY tiring, what with all of the struggle to sip all day to stay hydrated and get protein shakes down. I also have auto-immune arthritis, so I don't know if the crushing fatigue would have been as bad without that condition on top of it.
Desk job is do-able shortly after surgery, but it can be exhausting, is the main thing. And some people have a harder time recovering, or have complications that can keep them out longer.

I had RNY... on a Monday, and I went back to work the following Wednesday (a week after I was released from the hospital)... worked from about 9-3 for the rest of the week, and then back full time the following week. I did take naps after work for the first couple of weeks because I was tired, but I also have an office job, and really, I did fine.

I'm still pre-op but had my surgeons appointment this week. I'm in IT and the majority of it is desk work, my surgeon wants me at home a minimum of 3 weeks, possibly more to get use to my new sleeved stomach. My office can be pretty stressful but I'll be covered by my benefits to stay home, so I'm going to take advantage of the time to concentrate on getting to grips with my new way of life.
I was originally going to work from home, nope, not any more.

My pain was minimal considering I've had two kids naturally with no meds on board and one c-section at the end. I did feel as if I had been in a "knife fight" for a couple of days, but I was good to go and only took liquid Tylenol after I was released from the hospital.
I have an office job, and I came back to work fairly quickly. I had surgery on a Monday, released from hospital on Wednesday, and was back at work the day after (Thursday). I took three days off total. I don't suggest this for you, but I did it because I knew I would work harder at home than I would at the office.
Good luck to you. WLS was the best decision I have ever made for my health!

Welcome! I had the sleeve on a Tuesday, but there were complications. I had an RNY at 11:30pm the following day. I was in the hospital until Saturday. I have a sedentary job as well. I flew for a business trip three weeks post op from Atlanta to Boston and was in Aruba five weeks post op (no heavy lifting suitcases). So while everyone is different, even with complications, I bounced back fairly quickly. Good luck! It'll be here before you know it.

I have a desk job. I took off 2 weeks. Wasn't ready, asked for another 1/2 week.
When I went back, I found I didn't have the energy to make it through a whole day. So I would work most of the day, go home, take a nap, work the final couple hours in the evening from home.
Even once my physical fatigue had improved a bunch, I was still in a mental fog. It was only this week, at 5 weeks past surgery, that I have felt almost back to normal mentally. (ability to focus and do challenging mental work for hours at a time).
