I don't recall anyone saying anything critical to me about losing weight (I've lost 100 pounds and have maintained at 135 pounds for the last 14 months).

However, one woman in her early 80s who's in my aquarobics class periodically says I should stop losing weight. Everytime she says this I tell her the same thing: "I've weighed the same thing for the last year."

Bless her heart. I'm not even sure she remembers she's asked me this before.

But in addition to the clumsy or clueless, there are mansplainers and other know-it-alls who habitually instruct everyone about everything and share their opinions that are neither wanted nor needed. With these folks, I agree with Kat W. that we have to be clear about how much of their bull**** we will tolerate.

Oh I also get 'your husband is so great! He's stood by you through so much!'

which yes, is true. I have a wonderful husband and I give him a ton of credit but...who went through chemo? Me. Who had a double mastectomy? Me. Who had an oophorectomy? Me. Who had to go without any breasts for 3 years? Me. Who had major reconstruction surgery? Me. All of that was before I was 30. So that he stood by me through is great. But that I survived all that should kind of be the headliner IMO. let me tell you- it's so not. People ALWAYS are like omg your husband is amazing.

And it's gotten 10 times worse since the rny. I truly don't get it.

YUP.

As if the act of just "being there" is such a ******g accomplishment for a male human.

It's sort of insulting to men and infuriating for women!

Allen says that all the time - that it's insulting to him because he thinks it was the easiest thing in the world.

Not the same, but along the same line -- David was always offended that people would go on and on about how wonderful he was/is for being a hands-on dad -- he got comments on how awesome it was that he changed diapers, played with David John, fed him, bathed him --- and the worst -- that he "babysat" him.

WTF. BABY SIT???? He would fume -- HE IS A FATHER!!! He wasn't doing anything that I didn't do ALL MOTHER -F-ing DAY LONG and got no kudos for ... He found it so insulting that people acted as though he were doing anything but what he should be doing.

That said, David is a great husband and father and I love him enormously -- but I do WAY more household/childcare work than he does ... (I can't imagine how women survive in relationships where the husband doesn't do much at all)

He still gets a lot more credit than I do.

I haven't seen this one, yet. I worked with a lady who everyone knew had WLS and was doing great. I kept my WLS to myself. A co-worker whispered to me "She took the easy way out". I said "Really?! If there is an easy way to loose weight, sign me up!"

My bff at the time, after saying NOTHING to me about my surgery or weight loss, said, "glad to see the surgery is working for you."

And I was just like.. huh? You haven't said anything to me in months about my weight loss, you haven't asked me how things are going, you know all the exercise and diet modification I've done, and you say, "glad the surgery is working?" It really rubbed me the wrong way.

And then he never called or messaged or anything when my dad died so whatever. He's "bff at the time" for a reason.
