1st DEXA Body Composition scan results
There is a basic DEXA scan that is covered by insurance, on doctor's orders of course. They do three quick x-rays, and it gives you a bone density reading to tell if you have osteopenia or osteoporosis. It is recommended we have one before surgery, as a baseline, and every two years after. It is the only reliable test to see if our calcium supplements sre accurate.
The kind of DEXA they are talking about here is not covered by insurance. It is a more intensive scan, and shows you the percentages of fat, lean body mass, and bone. It does not give you the numbers you need to check for osteopenia/osteoporosis though.
