How do you get enough water?

Crazy as it seems, the thing I am having the most trouble with is getting in my 64 oz daily minimum of water.

I am trying harder today. I made some lemon and some cucumber mint infused water. That's helping g, but I really have to remind myself to drink because because I don't feel thirsty.

Suggestions? Strategies?

I find I drink more when I'm standing or moving or otherwise occupied. I try and get through 4 16 oz bottles while at work. I line them up on my desk in the morning. I drink what I can at my desk, but never leave my desk without a bottle in my hand that is when I power drink..when I'm on the move. I can go through 2 in 40 mins while on the treadmill as an example. If I leave the office to window shop at lunch..I bring water with me. I'll drink it fast mainly because I don't want to walk around with it for too long. I always drink one in the car on my way home from work.

Im at more than 100oz a day now with those strategies.

I usually get over 4litres a day. I do a few things to build it into my routine:

in the morning when I take my vitamins, I make a point to drink a whole 250ml of water. Then I usually have two decaf coffees (600 ml each)

I have a contego sports bottle that holds 750 ml. I make a point of drinking a whole one before each meal (I don't know why, but drinking out of a glass doesn't work for me) If I haven't been sipping throughout the morning, I drink the whole thing before I eat. At almost 6 months out, this only takes like 10minutes.

And then in the evening I often have an herbal tea.

The water I drink is usually room temp, and flavoured. I use tea bags, citrus and things like mio.

Hope my long ramble gives you a few ideas!

This is going to sound funny, but I set a timer on my Apple Watch. Every 30 minutes it went off and I drank some of my crystal light as I reset the timer. I had to do this for about 2 weeks, but now it's just automatic. I am able to get 2 liters in per day not counting my cup of milk in the morning and again at night.

Now I get antsy if I can't do that little sip sip every 30 minutes, lol

I use diet cran drink of some flavor mixed with ice water in a 24 ounce bottle and aim for three a day. I drink herbal tea in the evenings, and usually two mugs of coffee in the morning. Just plain water is pretty much intolerable for me since surgery. It is a hard habit to incorporate. Agree that the key is to never go anywhere without liquid in a bottle. At my first post-op my NUT said she never wanted to see me without a bottle.

I now carry water in my car, diet cran drink in my trunk, keep a filtered water bottle at my desk, and tea bags in my purse. Definitely a work in progress!

I have a 32 ounce bottle that I fill with water and crystal light twice a day and carry it everywhere. I sip constantly. It was difficult to remember in the beginning but it is habit now. If I somehow forget it I find myself looking for it and have to buy some water if I can't go back and get it. My body craves the water now maybe because it needs it but maybe because it is a habit.

I can't do crystal light because my heart beat gets irregular with aspartame . I just put a bit of lemon or lime juice into filtered water .

I think filtering the water is hugely important to get the toxins out - as we lose so many toxins get released from the emptying fat cells and our body just can't accept more .

This is also one reason I try to eat organically post op .

Personally I travel often and only drink tea whose water I saw boiled in foreign countries and even places with weird water like Las Vegas . I have read that tea counts as water - it's hard to forget that entire countries full of people in Asia wouldn't dream of drinking water .. just safely boiled tea.

I can't eat/drink aspartame because it's a huge migraine trigger for me. If you don't have issues with Splenda, try the liquid drops (Mio brand and similar) flavorings. The liquid ones tend to be Splenda (sucralose) and not aspartame. You also have more control over how much flavor that way, which I really like.

And in case you don't already know, there's a really fast way to see if there's aspartame in anything. If there is, there's required to be in bold letters, separate from the ingredients list but in the same general area the phrase "CONTAINS PHENYLALANINE". (At least in the U.S.) That's because it's an amino acid that's either in aspartame or is part of the breakdown of aspartame, and it's deadly to people who lack the enzyme to metabolize it. Makes it a lot easier for me to tell if a food is safe for me. :)

I drink a 33.8oz bottle of Smar****er and 2 Vitamin Water Zero(s) a day. That gives me 73.8 oz.

My water is drank in the mornings after my protein shakes and throughout the day up until around 3-4 pm. After that, I drink 2 Vitamin Water Zero(s).

Having a timer is a great idea. I remember to drink because I always have it within arms reach.

Good luck to you.
